PWHL: “Original Six” Team Names Trademarked

The names of the Professional Women’s Hockey League six teams have apparently been revealed courtesy of a series of publically available trademark registrations with the USPTO.

Thanks to the master of the trademark search, Clark Rasmussen of DetroitHockey.Net, we have learned that the PWHL has filed trademarks on the following names:

    BOSTON WICKED
    MINNESOTA SUPERIOR
    MONTREAL ECHO
    NEW YORK SOUND
    OTTAWA ALERT
    TORONTO TORCH

As DetroitHockey.Net notes, each of the trademarks was filed under the category of “Entertainment in the nature of hockey games; Organization of ice hockey games,” and was done so by “PWHL Holdings, LLC.” which is the same entity that trademarked the PWHL logo we talked about last week.

Could be better, could be worse.

Just sounds like a bunch of NLL team names or something.

Some dire selections there. Thing is, "Torch" wouldn't be too bad as a team name... for Montreal (Habs allusion) or New York (Statue of Liberty).

I could come up with better off the top of my head (copyrights permitting, of course):

        Boston Midnight Riders
Minnesota Superior (I'm actually okay with this one)
Montreal Spirits (allusion to the "ghosts" of the Montreal Forum)
New York Torch (might as well form an unofficial partnership with the WNBA Liberty)
        Ottawa Capitals or Ottawa Centennials
Toronto Trilliums (official flower of Ontario)
