    Bye Bye Datsyuk?

Seems like a threat for a better contract. I don't know if he will go through with it though. This would be a huge blow for the Wings if Datsyuk doesn't play in MoTown this season. The cap has really hurt this club.

he wants 5 million a year or so I heard, and no way the Wings can afford that at the moment....not sure if he'll really go to Russia, or if this is more a ploy for more money, we'll see

Report: Datsyuk signs with Russian club

            TSN.ca Staff

            9/5/2005 3:11:40 PM

MOSCOW - It appears that Pavel Datsyuk meant it when he set a Monday deadline in his talks with the Red Wings.

According to Reuters, the restricted free agent signed a one-year contract with Russian club Avangard Omsk today.

The 27-year-old All-Star centre, who reportedly turned down a $5 million offer by Detroit was apparently looking for a deal of at least $6 million with the Red Wings.

"I think I am worth at least what (Dany) Heatley or (Joe) Thornton got from their deals," Datsyuk told the Russian media.

Datsyuk has a clause in his Avangard contract, allowing him to leave for the NHL midway through the season.

            Pretty ****ty for the wings.

Avangard Omsk, isn´t that club that is run by the multi billionare Roman Abramovich? The same guy that buys players to the soccerteam Chelsea for big money?

Yes, he's the one, and he's been taking some heat for being in a scandal with Chelsea and the EPL? I just scanned the headlines for a brief bit, so I might be wrong on this.

Abromovich has been taking heat even since he came to Chelsea(I'm a fan of the team). Whether it be alleged ties to the Russian mafia or allegations of tapping up players, he's always in the news.

There's no out clause - Ken Holland was saying that late last night to early this morning in my local paper....

Looks like Datsyuk will not be playing for Detroit this season and likely ever again....they'll probably end up trading away his rights

                      Re: Bye Bye Datsyuk?

Datsyuk is asking for to much plain and simple. He said he wants to make Heatley and Thornton money. Well as good a young player as he is, when he starts wearing the C and being the all around player Thornton is, or being the two way guy that Heatley is, he can have it. But at this point he hasnt done enough to warrant a 5 million a year contract. He's a 3.5-4 mil a year guy.

And if he really wanted to stick it to Detroit, play for that on a one year deal, score a ton as the top line guy and then hold out. At least have some leverage.
