Nice one NHL. Have 2 all Canadian matchups, and not a single one gets to play on the biggest hockey night of the week in Canada(HNIC on Saturday night). No big deal, I mean HNIC is just the Monday Night Football for Canadian hockey fans......
Meanwhile NBC gets their prime coverage slots with the big games happening on Saturday/Sunday afternoons.

It's the playoffs man. Doesn't matter what day of the week it's on. It will be watched.
And American's haven't cared about Monday Night Football for about 5 years now.

Waited all year for another shot with a healthy Bishop. Definitely did not want to play Detroit in the first round, but it is what it is. I think they push us to 7 games, but the best home record in the NHL gets us through to round 2. Id really like to see Tampa & NYR for the ECF and 2 Canadian teams (preferably Winnipeg being one of them) in the WCF. Just really excited about no Boston & no LA.

Fine then. HNIC is like Sunday Night Football. About 10% of Canadian population watches hockey on Saturday night. So that'd be equivalent to over 30M americans watching something. Number will be higher if you just factor in tv viewers percentage and not overall country population.
Game will be watched, but seeing how NHL just signed a huge deal with Rogers, they'd at least have games slotted in the most watched timeslots for their networks.

Flames-Canucks renewing old playoff rivalry from the 80s. In the 6 prior playoff series between them,4 times it lead to one of those 2 teams in the cup finals. Matchups people remember the most being the one with Bure vs Fleury in 94. Most recent in 04 with Naslund,Sedins vs Iginla,Kiprusoff.
Islanders-Caps also renewing old 80s playoff rivalry. 5 straight years they faced each other in the 80s. Islanders during those years featured guys like Bossy,Potvin,Trottier,LaFontaine going up against Caps featuring players like Gartner,Murphy,Stevens.

Right, that was just a sidebar. America doesn't have any weekly event that even comes close to comparing to HNIC.
My point was that regardless of the day of the week, it's the playoffs. Viewership will be there and will be just fine.

So to sum it up, 8/16 of the playoff teams this season didn't make playoffs according to EA Sports NHL15 predictions. Their prediction for best in the east didn't even make playoffs. Their conference finals features 3 teams not even in the playoffs. Stanley Cup Finals features 2 teams who didn't make playoffs. 4 of the 5 worst in the west actually made the playoffs, and the worst in the east made it as well.

My brother is going to that game as well, should be a great atmosphere. Went to game 1 last year and it was nuts. We have a really underrated Stadium atmosphere because we're in Florida. Enjoy it!
