Uh...are we sure this guy is cut out to play hockey in a Canadian market?
He may or may not be, but that tweet (the video has already been deleted) is TSN clickbait. Pettersson's actual quote was "It will be nice to get a break from everything. It's been a very noisy season in terms of the contract and how sh** I've been the last few months."

I'm more concerned with when the Canucks diagnosed his knee injury and how they handled it. It sounds like it was one of those nagging things that required rest more than anything else... but they didn't rest Pettersson at all. He even played in the dead rubber last regular season game in Winnipeg.

Re: NHL 2024 Offseason

Sheldon Keefe with the comment of the offseason (so far).

He said once he got the Devils job he heard from various people around the league congratulating him and saying he's now part of the "real nhl".

What are they implying exactly? The leagues cash cow isn't the real NHL?

That kind of mindset is why the NHL is 4th in the big 4. The league is happy being relatively unknown to most, with coaches and players preferring to not be known by fans or cared about by the media, but it's those very things which are needed to grow the league.

Imagine the NBA where LeBron would prefer Charlotte over LA because he wants to live a low key life away from the media and fans who recognize him.

The Leafs are not the Lakers. The Leafs are the Knicks.

Toronto is a rich but toxic market with cold winters and where nobody ever wins. If you could live in a warmer clime, make as much or more money, deal with a lot less stress and pressure, and have as much or a greater chance of a championship, why wouldn't you? What is the purpose of greater "fame" if it doesn't result in more money, more titles, a better lifestyle? Yes, the atmosphere of playing/coaching in a Canadian market when things are going well is great, but that's it. The rest is pretty much all negative.

Actually, playing in a Canadian market when things are going well has its drawbacks as well.

This might just be idle offseason gossip for the sake of gossip, but it doesn't seem that far off base?

Seeing his brother have such wild postseason success as soon as he strong-armed his way out of Calgary has to be ever-present in Brady Tkachuk's head, right?

On paper the Senators appear to have a pretty decent young core to build around, and then you notice they have a black hole in goal, with no real solutions in the pipeline (Sogaard??), their farm system as a whole is pretty poor, they weren't close to the playoffs this year...

The most curious thing is probably: why did Tkachuk sign an extension there to begin with? They look like a dead end team to me. They could almost assuredly land a gold mine of prospects + picks if they decided to move Tkachuk now.

Re: NHL 2024 Offseason

Wonder if new ownership will have anything to say about it as well. I think they’re sincere that they want to build around him, but if it goes south again with no sign of real progress, the tune will change quickly.

Re: NHL 2024 Offseason

Tkachuk must be the most valuable trade asset in the league at the moment. 24 years old, no injury issues as of yet, signed for 4 more seasons at 8.2M (with the cap finally going up), no NMC/NTC. If it's possible to have a true bidding war in today's NHL, this would be it.

Would be tough to punt on the current rebuild while the Sens are still playing in Kanata, though.

Re: NHL 2024 Offseason

If Sens want to do Tkachuk+ for Marner, I wouldn't be opposed.......
