The Official NHL 2015-2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

Fun opening night of the playoffs.

Bet Money damn near exploded seeing a 1-0 OT win.

Can't wait to see what happens with the Flyers/Capitals series tonight. I feel confident that we can pull the upset, but it's gonna take all hands on deck. Hope we can solve Holtby. That's always my worry in the playoffs: running in to a hot goalie. The ultimate equalizer. Mason could do the same for Philly, so we'll see. The Caps are so loaded and have the golden ticket that is Justin Williams. Lol

Agreed.
I know everyone in the Wings organization was hellbent on getting that magical 25th season of playoff hockey, but I wonder what Zetterberg and Kronwall would have fetched on the open market? (Datsyuk needs to retire a Wing).

On another note, Drouin looks to be the real deal.
I thought he was one of the top 3 players on the ice last night - for both team.

I was really impressed with Drouin last night. He was everywhere when he was on the ice and he looked way more confident handling the puck then he ever did last year.

I think the biggest thing for him is that he was a lot more physical which is big in Cooper's eyes

How I feel about the Wild going into Dallas tonight.

As a Philly fan, with the Flyers going into Washington, I'm more like....

"Bring me my brown pants!!!"

After what Liverpool did today, the Wild could lose 15-0 and I'd still be smiling.

It's all fun and games until the goalie takes a teammates stick in eye.

Kronwall- Has no market. Was hurt most of the year and ineffective the rest. Plus, he's 35 and you have to take him for 3 more years at 4.75 M. If he were to bounce back next season, then things would change.

Zetterberg- Could probably get a good return if Detroit took back a bad contract. He's 35 and signed until 2021 and has begun to show his decline. The only team he's worth 6 M a year to is Detroit.

Ultimately, the exercise is pointless, because they both have NTCs and they wouldn't waive.

I am preparing myself for a disappointing offseason. I just don't think Holland has the dealing aptitude to do what needs to be done. I just don't see him being able to trade Howard, add a veteran backup, dump Datsyuk's deal, let all the FAs leave (I'm 50/50 on keeping Helm) and round out the forward core (the fourth line was abysmal for most of the year). I've been surprised before; Al Avila managed to check all the boxes I laid out for the Tigers, but if this offseason gets screwed up, it will take a few breakouts to keep the streak alive.

The defense is more complex. Ericsson has a NTC, so it would be difficult to dump his deal even if we did throw in some serious assets. Xavier Oulette and Robbie Russo (thanks Islanders) look NHL ready. Kyle Quincey should be gone but Holland could panic like he did before. I'd love to add Yandle or Goligoski to add more firepower to the back end, but that only works with Ericsson gone. They also have to be careful with DeKeyser, I'm afraid he'll end up with Andy MacDonald money.
