I think there's a happy medium between the NBA where you can set your watch to superstars performing on a nightly basis, to the NHL where you can win most bets that superstars will be a non-factor.
What sport wouldn't want their most valuable commodities to be the deciding factor in the most important time of the year? Apparently the NHL.
Something I've noticed is that there's so much randomness that happens in hockey. It's hard to say like "okay, this guy's gonna control the puck right now and this is gonna happen" It just seems like one big "**** happens."

I guess that's just the way the product is now? Because reading the more veteran hockey fans' posts here, it seems there was a time that this wasn't particularly the case.

Ask Sid if that's true...after he takes another faceoff.

Defencemen are bigger and better skaters than even 10yrs. ago, so forwards are going to be challenged, along w/ the goalies that look like Transformers in hockey gear.

All players are better athletes now that there's no smoking allowed in NHL locker rooms...even during intermissions. No. Joke.

Just watch old highlights of parts of games, check out all the open ice. Coaching, conditioning, and player size all changed, but the rinks are the same size...and how about those brown leather goalie pads!!! Stuffed w/ deer hair!!! Al MacInnis and Al Iafrate used to bet on how many goalies legs they could break in a season w/ their slapshots...but really, the game has definitely tightened up defensively in 30+ years.

Yeah, I dunno. I enjoy it either way so whatever. If a game is fun and intense, it's fun and intense regardless of whether it's 5-4 or 2-1. I like game variation anyway.

Back on topic, tonight's game has been awesome thus far. Tons of energy.

As someone that still has games from the 70s and 80s captured on the XHD, it's easy for me to compare eras.

Goal! Hornqvist! Nice hands! Nicer screen!

Pittsburgh media already preempting their excuse if necessary due to the ice conditions.

Nice shot by Donskoi! Sharks needed this game to make it more interesting.
