Wherever Fleury winds up instantly becomes my second-favorite team.

Re: NHL 2017 Off-Season Thread

Some interesting notes. Ducks never asked Bieksa to waive his NMC(Ducks are one of the most notable teams in the expansion draft given their D depth, along with lack of cap space, and need for a top 6 forward). Sounds like maybe they have a deal with Vegas to not select any of their dmen.

Sens asked Phaneuf to waive his NMC, but looks like he refused to do so. So Ceci or Methot are either going to Vegas or dealt somewhere else.

In the end though, I'm saying Vegas will end up being in the top half of the NHL next season in defense, but bottom 5-10 in offense. A worse version of the Sens this past season basically. Fleury in net and so many good dmen to pick from. Assuming Vegas goes that route. Maybe the amount of trades they get from teams to not select certain guys will make Vegas loaded with draft picks.

Re: NHL 2017 Off-Season Thread

And so it begins.

Habs acquire Drouin from Tampa and conditional 6th for Sergachev(Habs top pick last year) and conditional 2nd!

About time they added a scoring forward. They've only needed one badly for years. Too bad they didn't realize this last year before dealing PK. Imagine this past years Habs team with PK and Drouin on it instead. Get past Rangers and Sens and give Pens a run for their money.

I'll miss Drouin but this seems like a no brainer for Tampa. They were most likely going to lose someone to expansion or RFA and really needed some D whether he's ready to go now or further down the line.

Drouin signs a 6 year deal with Montreal.

Teuvo Teravainen signed a 2 year extension with Carolina.

Re: NHL 2017 Off-Season Thread

Drouin is no Matthews or McDavid, but he's no doubt another guy the media here can now talk about all the time. Star young forward who maybe ends up as captain one day?

As for other Habs players, Galchenyuk is all but gone. Habs need depth up front, but seems like he's gonna be dealt for a d-man. No rumored team, but maybe Ducks get their forward after all. And Radulov could end up staying. 3-4 year deal perhaps. But either way, if they want to seriously contend in playoffs, they need scoring. Why drastically improve your D today when you got the best "last line of defence" in the league. Focus on scoring. Who knows, maybe Thornton becomes an option up front?

Whoa, didn't realize Drouin got traded today. Where the **** was I all day?!

Rangers bought Dan Girardi out. Probably had to happen. Dude gave his all but I think it's time.

Wild have some work to do to keep their guys but I'm not sure they'll be able to get out of the Pominville deal to help make it happen. Really hoping they don't lose Nino.

Re: NHL 2017 Off-Season Thread

Sounds like Oilers and Habs are among teams on Phaneuf trade list.

Habs wise, wonder if that'd tie in with Galchenyuk. Sens could use a good forward and Habs wanna trade him for a d-man.

Oilers obviously could use some D also. If you believe the reports that Sens would need to retain salary or take back a cap filler, we could see Oilers throwing in Fayne as a cap filler and dealing one of the many younger pieces they got. Or even draft pick.
