Re: 2017 Stanley Cup Final: Pittsburgh Penguins vs Nashville Predators

Crazy game. What a way to start SCF! At least NHL playoffs are exciting unlike certain other sports.

Preds score....but no goal(on an offside 15 seconds BEFORE the goal!)
Pens then score 2 goals
Pens get a 3rd goal from Preds deflecting it in their own net
Pens go all of 2nd period without a single shot
Preds score next 3 goals to tie the game up 3-3
Pens first shot in almost 40 minutes is the game winning goal

Pens go almost 40 minutes without a shot, set NHL record for fewest shots in a stanley cup final, and WIN!? Pens also are first team in Stanley Cup Final history to win a game with fewer than 15 shots.

As an unbiased fan watching this game, definitely were some bad calls in this one. I find that offside rule stupid, but Bettman flat out saying there's no problem with the rule and it's gone exactly like how they intended.....Things like that are horrible to hear as a fan. One of their biggest complaints about replay review, and the commish is happy about it. This is NHLs version of "what is a catch" issue that NFL has. I honestly can't even explain offside anymore.

And not just in this game but throughout playoffs, some real bad calls refs have made. They let so much go which is fine.....IF you don't call weak penalties. However, that's exactly what they did here. Not to mention the phantom call on Preds which leads to a 5 on 3 which gave Pens that early momentum.

They don't ask how, just how many. 5 on 3 was nice to see after Hornqvist got dumped in front of the crease, then James Neal (surprise!) takes a stupid penalty on Daley.

Gotta love the Crosby 2nd assist on Sheary's goal, in the corner, in traffic, still finds Kunitz all alone at top of circle... gee, that looked familiar... right, Ottawa?

No more cruise control after this game though. Pretty obvious Nashville had push back after first period, but Guentzel had a killer, especially after the lull in 2nd and 3rd. How Nashville responds to that will be interesting to see. Good start. Not great, but good enough for tonight. Time to tighten it up.

Defend Home Ice.

Ticked about the result, but it's all good - Nashville looked good outside of that 1st period goal flurry debacle, and for a vast stretch of the game, was the better team. I like their odds going forward in this series.

Stanley Cup Final: ?
Fascinating. I suppose Twitter might be some of the reason (I don't use it either, so I wouldn't know) but that is definitely hard to explain. It's an interesting data set nonetheless. If I were an investor and OS forums were a stock, I'd be very concerned....

Although I still say (while I fully acknowledge I have no data whatsoever to back me up) that the lack of a robust sports gaming community, compared to the hey-day of Madden v 2K, EA vs 2K NHL, college sports games, baseball games on systems other than PS4, etc. etc. etc....given the nature of how people arrive at / engage in this site to begin with, has to have had some trickle-down effect.

But then again, maybe it's just twitter.

It was ugly and Pittsburgh has got to get more pucks on net but I'll happily take a game one win.

Let's Go Pens!

If you meant Calle Jarnkrok tripping Hornqvist by slashing his skates out from under him, then yes, they did.

This shady character however, was seen running down 5th Ave shortly after 1st period. Still at large...
