The Official 2018-19 Season Talk Thread

We're just past the official halfway point in the season.

Playoff picture right now:
Atlantic:
1.Tampa
2.Leafs
3.Bruins

Metro:
1.Caps
2.Pens
3.Jackets

WC:
1.Islanders
2.Sabres
3.Habs

Unless someone like Canes or Panthers get really hot, the above will be the playoff scene(meaning of the 8 spots, there's just 9 teams competing for it). I see East playoffs ending up something like:
-Lightning (1) vs Islanders (WC2)
-Leafs (2) vs Bruins (3)
-Caps (1) vs Sabres (WC1)
-Pens (2) vs Jackets (3)

West playoffs:
Central:
1.Preds
2.Jets
3.Stars

Pacific:
1.Flames
2.Sharks
3.Golden Knights

WC:
1.Avs
2.Wild
3.Ducks
4.Oilers

Playoff matchups I'll guess:
-Jets (1) vs Avs (WC2)
-Preds (2) vs Wild (3)
-Flames (1) vs Stars (WC1)
-Sharks (2) vs Golden Knights (3)

I'm hoping for Jets-Preds and Flames-Sharks 2nd round matchups.

Hopefully the Avs will get things figured out after the All-Star break. They're somehow still in the playoff picture, but have struggled big time the past 6 weeks.

They've also lost the right way(aka OT loser point), so that's helped a fair amount too.

Rick Nash retires.

This dude was supposed to be the stuff, he ended up with a good career (1000+ GP, 400+ G, 800+ PTS) but it seems underwhelming. He never really led the Blue Jackets to anything. I think that’s where the disappointment lies.

I would like to see the Rangers sneak into the playoffs but honestly I don’t see that happening.

Breaking news:
Leafs need defence.


It's frustrating watching games where Leafs clearly could be dominating if they had the same number of shots as their opponents. Having each period end up with shots being something like 12-7 in favour of their opponent gets old fast. Andersen or anyone in net having to face 35 shots a night is unfair. Having a high shooting percentage doesn't mean as much if your opponent gets 5-10 shots more than you each game.
