I wonder if we're seeing the beginnings of something special here in Carter Hart. Hopefully, finally, the Flyers can get off the goalie carousel and have an established presence in net. Looking forward to big things for this humble kid.

Boucher > Bobrovsky > Hart

I can’t name any other goalies who were home grown who had success early on for the Flyers and that’s the last 20 years. We gave away Bob...

Hart’s been pegged as the guy for a while it seems, can’t believe he’s like 20.

Re: The Official 2018-19 Season Talk Thread

All star weekend coming up soon. NHL changing things up this year. Skills challenge on Friday and the all star game is Saturday night. I like that change, especially since the game on a Sunday afternoon or evening is weird.

After the break we'll be in for a weird few days. Majority of the league is on a bye week. So from Monday to Thursday there's a total of 10 games in the league. 5 involve Winnipeg and/or Philly. Winnipeg gets to feel like the only Canadian team for a few days. LA and Florida play tomorrow, then don't play again until February.

League can get bye week but can't improve their back to backs?

Re: The Official 2018-19 Season Talk Thread

Glad I checked this thread, didn’t know it was ASG weekend. Mainly here for the skills competition, but the ASG at least feels like an exhibition now with all the crazy changes over the years. Stopped pulling punches that it was like a regular game and leaned in to the wackiness.

Tough season for me as a Flyers fan, tough 2018 for all my sports teams. So I’m just looking forward to enjoying myself with these events.

Re: The Official 2018-19 Season Talk Thread

I'm probably one of the few who enjoys all star weekends. I like the exhibition-ness of the games, and basically just having "mini games" like skills comp (and saturday night stuff for nba, and HRD for baseball).

Once ASW is done, I might have to "cheer" for the Habs?! As long as Leafs don't play themselves out of a playoff spot, Habs doing well either means a Leafs-Habs playoff match, or Leafs get bumped to 2nd WC spot(because the Bruins are the Bruins and will never slump) and get to go through the Metro division instead of battling Tampa/Boston(should the Habs not be in a division spot).

I want a Leafs-Habs playoff battle. This will probably be the most watched non stanley cup playoff series the league has ever had. Who knows what US ratings might be(although having a big American name like Matthews, and then other stars like Tavares,Marner,Price could draw in the hardcore American fans to watch), but no doubt we'll see record numbers in Canada, and crowds for those games will be insane. It's a shame it's been a few decades since we've had that matchup.

Re: The Official 2018-19 Season Talk Thread

Is Kings/Avs the most nonsensical outdoor game matchup ever? What's the angle? One team will be mad at the other for winning the Jack Hughes Lottery? (Or both will be mad at the Hawks or Oilers for winning?)

Thumbs up to a Preds/Stars Winter Classic, though.

I liked what they did last night having a women's league player joining in. Nhl absolutely should be partnering with the league(s). For skills comp next year they should have 1 female compete in each challenge. There's no reason why they can't.

I'd fully support a CWHL/NWHL "Loser Leaves Town" game at next year's All-Star Game in St. Louis. The losing league has to dissolve, and the winning league absorbs the loser's teams.
