Re: 2019 Stanley Cup Final: Boston Bruins vs. St. Louis Blues

Since we know how much of a copycat culture sports are, what does Blues winning mean for hockey?

6 of last 11 cup winners were the result of a midseason coaching change (4 happened during the season the team won the cup, the other 2 were the coach who won the year he was a replacement AND would go on to win the cup again with that same team).

Also, Blues went from last to first in a 6 month span. Does that change anything in terms of teams wanting to sell or anything like that? It's rare to happen, but we know about NHL and parity. If Blues could go from looking to win lottery to winning the cup, why cant others?

Remember, it's the ultimate Team Sport, where you can be last in the league, call up a better goalie and then win the Cup.

2018: Expansion team makes finals
2019: Last place team to start January wins the cup

And we've had a stretch of firsts

Blues win first cup in 2019
Vegas obviously first virtually everything by expansion team in 2018
Preds in their first finals in 2017
Sharks in their first finals in 2016

Someone’s mad their beloved Red Wings are not drinking outta the Cup every year. Hah!

It’s a weird conundrum. This was a cool story and that game and the whole series was downright exciting as hell. Parity is good, right?

But then you get the cinderellas knocking off the top seeds and Boston just picking off the scraps once those worse-off teams ran out of juice.

I don’t see the NHL caring to fix any of your issues with the sports any time soon so, heh, might have to settle in.

LOL! My Wings do stink. But I'd rather they be getting lottery picks at this point than anything else.

But my point was, without a good goalie, you're not winning anything. For such a 'team sport', it's highly dependant on one position.
I wouldn't be shocked if an AHL team, with NHL goalie, could beat an NHL team with an AHL goalie in a best of 7 a majority of times.

Except Binnington was an AHL goalie for the last 5 years (one most scouts thought would be a minor league lifer) until being called up in January. So one can make a good case that an NHL team with an AHL goalie (one you compared to professional punchline Jim Carey after Game 6) just won a Cup.

I definitely never said anything to contradict that...

You actually kinda helped prove my point.
