Unless the deal was already agreed before that and every big club knew they'd have no chance regardless. Pep needs cash and a good foundation. United don't have much that Pep would like other than the "history and tradition." City have the squad Pep would see himself being successful with

Yeah...right.

United have more cash than City though, City just has a better squad right now

I meant the squad not the cash part. Should have clarified that

There is such a thing as hijacking a deal. Chelsea know this very well. My point being, I'd rather United tried to get him than not at all. Tempt him with the money, whatever power Pep wanted etc. He says no, okay, at least the offer was made.

The Prem is only getting more competitive, as this year shows, and next year's big TV money injection will only make it more so. It'll be interesting to see how his style adapts to the EPL.

From Sky:

'UNITED MADE NO ATTEMPT'

Manchester United made no attempt to hijack Pep Guardiola's move to Manchester City, according to Sky sources.

City stole the Deadline Day headlines by announcing that Guardiola will replace Manuel Pellegrini as manager when he leaves Bayern Munich in the summer.

And sources say the early confirmation has spared United the temptation of entering a summer fight for football's most in-demand manager which was always likely to have just one winner.

Current United boss Louis van Gaal has a year to run on his Old Trafford contract.

While you can't argue that City has the better players, United actually has a system in place that is more similar to what Pep's philosophies are.

You could argue City's system is more stable as they have invested a lot into their academy and youth system. United used to have a rock solid system but it hasn't been the same in quite a long time. While City still sign big names they're also putting the money into their club infrastructure. That makes them more attractive right now than United. That's all I'm saying.
