NFSU2: At drags, my engine keeps blowing out.. Why?

I'm currently in a drag race that I don't seem to be able to win, not due to my lack of ability, but instead my cars lack of having the power to finish the race.

I'm using the Nissan 240SX, and am racing against some pretty nice cars, including a G35 (such a nice car).

It's a long race, and I can keep up with the guys, but during the final stretch my car's engine blows out.

In one race I was drafting the IS300, and my car blew out as a result of the added speed.

Do I just need to wait until I lock better performance parts, or am I doing something wrong? It's a 5 speed car, and by the end of the race I'm redlining without even using any nitrous..

    Thoughts?

BTW, this game is simply incredible. It's the best racing game I have ever played, and I love how well the customization and racing tie into one another. I just got some spinners, and I spend minutes just lifting my car up on its hydraulics and watching them spin as I accelerate and brake. Can't wait to go online with this one, but I'll need a better car first.

Anyway, if anyone has thoughts or suggestions I'd love to hear them, because I'd like to beat this drag, but I guess it's entirely possible that I'm just not ready yet.

You probably aren't shifting at the proper times.

        Thanks for the reply..

I actually am shifting at the right times.. I've had a few runs where I hit all "Perfect Shifts" but once my car gets around 155 the engine blows out.

It's as if all would be well if I shifted into 6th gear, but my car only has 5!

I just tried a few more times, and once again, I drafted the ISS and was right up on his tail (in 5th gear), until he hit about 153, then my engine blew.

This is a race for my sponser, and I just recently entered a new part of the city and got the sponser, so maybe I am doing it too soon and my car doesn't have enough performance upgrades?

EDIT: I just beat it! I had another good run and the CPU racers didn't.. At the final stretch, my car started to redline (as usual), but I had a nice lead so I let off a little and crossed the line with it in the red and the Engine about to blow out.

I think I was overmatched and probably did the race too early, because I tried 10-15 times and when I did win, it was a fluke (I think).

LMAO, thats great. I guess thats the game's way of telling you to slow the hell down and enjoy the game! haha. I've done one of every race, including the URL, and I would have to say my favorite is the drift races.
I just got my first sponser today, well that makes sense because I just got the game today. After three hours of playing I have one sponser so far (Eurolite) completed the three request drifting races (so much fun!) and am now modding the hell out of my car. Right about now I wish I had a digital camera so I could post some pictures!

Yea, I hear that.. As I said already.. I raced an Infinity G35, which is such a nice car. I've also recently raced a Mustang and a few others, but it's neat to see these yourself for the first time, so I won't list them..

I like the game a lot because, while the racing engine is great and the races are very fast (and keep getting faster), the unlockabled and upgrades are handled in a way that has you just as (or more) excited about unlocking new parts than winning a race. There are times I find myself more excited about winning a race and unlocking a new part than I am about the race itself.

When I first got the game, I called my dad in and showed him the car I was starting with.. He's like, "That's nothing special, yada, yada.." And then I called him again yesterday to show him the car with tweaks and other pimpage, and he's like, "It may look nice, but under the hood it's still a Nissan." Funny stuff, and a clear indication that he doesn't "get" the game at all. When I first started, the car ran so much slower than it does now, so it isn't "looks only."

I showed him some of the other vehicles and he did get into the paint job aspect, as he told me to go through the various tones of red to find the one he thought looked best..

It's just funny because he totally missed the video game era, and when I ask him what he thought about my newly pimped out car, instead of commenting on the decals, spoiler, and other fun stuff, he starts talking about build quality in vehicles, and how it doesn't matter what kind of flash you put on them.. You still have the same car. It was really funny because the talk turned from video game to reality in ways I would have never imagined.

Then I showed him my struggles with the drag race above, and he saw me blow my engine as I drifted behind the ISS. He was like, "Looks like you need a better car." I replied that I couldn't afford one yet because I didn't have the money. To which he replied, "What do you mean you don't have the money. It's your game, you paid for it. You can have any car you want." Funny stuff, because one again, just a totally different viewpoint. He couldn't grasp the concept that me buying the game doesn't automatically entitle me to everything that it has to offer right away.

His comments in regards to my new spoiler was, "I don't like them in real life, I certainly don't like them in video games."

Good stuff all around. I told him he can play the game if he wants, but he took a waiver on that one.

You should have seen the faces my girlfriend and little sister gave me. Deep down I knew they were just as hype as I was, but they kept looking at each other and then looking at me...it was hilarious. My sister kept saying she didn't want to play ('I only like to customize, I don't like racing')..but as soon as I put the controller down, she was trying to race. My girlfriend is one of those 'sneaky' gamers...she'll say its lame to other people but when she's alone, she enjoys them just as much as I do...'let me borrow your Xbox...please!'

Re: NFSU2: At drags, my engine keeps blowing out.. Why?

BTW, here is a fun fact and good information.

If you get a new car and want to use parts from your current car, you can't.

By that I mean, you can't strip down your old car's parts and use them on your new car, because it won't let you. Instead, I recommend selling the car (with parts installed), so that you get more money.

I haven't tested this out entirely (haven't sold a car yet), but I did buy a new car to see if I could remove and transfer parts from the old car, and it didn't let me. I'm talking performance parts here, and I think that's realistic, because each car is different and realistically would have different part sizes, etc.

I didn't try with body kits and parts to see if they are transferable, but I'm at the point where I am planning on switching cars, and I just wanted to give an FYI for others that may be doing the same thing.

This isn't related to my original post, but this game seems to have an unfortunately low following at the forums here, so I figured those that were playing it would read another reply to my thread.

                            Take care.

EDIT: Does anyone know how to sell your car? The manual to this game is pretty weak, and I went to a Car Lot, but it seems I can only buy there...

UPDATE: Ok, I did some hunting and found answers to my own questions.. You can't sell your car, but instead can trade it in. From what I gather, you trade all parts in with it, and if you buy it again you have to re-buy the parts.. However, as long as you have garage space (5 total, some locked), you shouldn't need to sell/trade a car.

It seems the parts don't transfer to other cars at all, so if you buy a new car, you are going to have to hook it up from square one.

UPDATE 2: When your garage spots are full, the only way you can get rid of one of your current cars is to trade it for a new one at the Car Lot. Furthermore, all of your parts on your old car will be traded in with it, regardless of whether they are installed or not.

I did a test where I removed all the parts from my Nissan, traded it in and then traded my new car for a stock Nissan. I then went to the garage to see if the parts I had uninstalled were still there to use, and they weren't. So basically, when you trade a car in, it's parts are traded in also, even if they are uninstalled.

So basically, you don't sell cars, you trade them in when you don't have room in your garage. Parts are traded with the car, and when you buy a stock new car, you are going to have to buy parts and tweak it from the ground up.

It's good information.. And something to think about before you trade your car in.. Make sure you can afford new parts and upgrades for your new car before you trade in your old one.. Otherwise your new car might not be able to compete initially until you can save up enough money.
