Question about F1 2002

In the PC version of F1 2002, I am having a problem getting my car to shift in any higher gear than 1st !!!! While trying to shift up, the next number will flash momentarily on my screen and never actually changes. Also, the games seems to only allow my accelerator and brake to share the same axis. I've made several different settings in the game's options/controller menu to no avail. The shared axis thingy does'nt seem to be correctable within the game.

Has anybody seen this happen ?? Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong or need to change??

Make sure you turn the rev limiter off (L by default, I believe). That allows you to go higher than pit road speed limit. I'm assuming that might be your problem with the gears.

And the game definitely supports split-axis...my wheel uses 3 axes on the pedals and 1 for the steering, and the game supports all 3. No idea what could be wrong with yours.
