    Steering Wheels

For those of you who use steering wheels, what are you using to mount them on? I have rigged up a little platform between 2 chairs, but it's not ideal. the board i've mounted the wheel on isn't fastened to the chairs so it moves around when i make sharp movements. i can't hardly justify screwing the board to the chairs, as they're my dining room chairs (my wife would kill me). i know everyone using these wheels isn't buying the full $400 or $500 rigs to mount them on, so what are they using?
Any of you guys come up with cheaper solutions? i would appreciate any suggestions

I use a wheelstand pro for my G25 and 360 wheel. It works great.

      Re: Steering Wheels

You know those breakfast bench chairs? I have one that is square shaped rather than round shaped. I mount my wheel to that. It's the perfect height to drive when I sit on a chair. The chair is shaped like the letter H on the bottom so there's space at the bottom to put the pedals.

Now the important part. I take 2 25 pound dumbells and rest one on each bottom side of the chair and "voila" no movement on any sharp turns. It's quite ingenious if I say so myself and I can keep the wheel mounted on there because it's an extra chair so setting up is simply grabbing the dumbells.

well, for the time being, i've hijacked my bedstand and mounted the wheel on it. it's basically just a heavy wooden end table but it's the perfect height when i sit in my chair. i'm just setting the pedals on the ground- which seems to work fine.
now i just need to learn to drive with the wheel (logitech driving force GT). my lap times are better using the sixaxis controller . i just got the wheel last night so i hope i'll get better as i practice.
        thanks for the help guys

I've wanted one of those racing seats from Bob Earl Racing, but my wife would kill me.

Trust me, you'll get much better quickly and you'll soon realize how you ever used a controller in the 1st place. Make sure you have the wheel set up properly for the specific game. For prologue it should be set at 900 degrees and for games like F1 CE it shouldn't have the 900 degrees enabled. If you don't have Formula1 CE (should be pretty cheap by now) get it because the GT wheel works great with it and it really is a very underrated game.

search for some PVC designs, they are cheap, easy to make, and you can take them apart

i do have F1CE which was the primary reason for getting the wheel. the problem is, i'm having a terrible time turning in good lap times. i will definitely look into fine tuning the settings. so, i need to make sure the 900 degrees is disabled? anything else i should check

I find this game alot harder to master than Prologue. Just practice, practice, practice. The key to running good lap times is getting to know the tracks like the back of your hand so hitting any oncoming turns is like 2nd nature where you don't even pay attention to the map icon. That and when you hit any chicanes, brake early and accelerate as soon as you enter it, just don't accelarate as much when turns are harder.

Any track has a learning curve because you can only remember so many track layouts at any one time unless you play 24\7 but once you master a track it's a very rewarding experience in this game because the physics are top notch. Monza is my favorite track.

You should know that the logitech GT wheel cannot switch from 900 to 210/270. The original logitech DFP is the only one that can be switch. I have both wheels.

Should be in the settings of the game although with F1 it may adjust it automatically, can't remember.

The DFGT5 wheel can't change. Only the original GT (DFP2) wheel. Google it. Perhaps I confused you. The one with the Red dial doesn't have the key command setting change option to switch the wheel from 900 to 270. There are no settings to switch this in F1CE.
