I haven't jumped into MXGP for a number of years, sounds like a great pick up, the only question I have...you talk about how well it plays on the PS5, but since many of us are yet able to get our hands on a new system...how far is the drop off to the PS4?

Great review. I noticed the weight to the bikes immediately also. They feel great this year. I've also noticed a difference in handling between the different manufactures. In my first 250 season I went the team route this time and mid season I had the option to change teams. I went from Honda To KTM and there was a noticeable difference in the handling. The KTM had more power coming out of the turns and I often found my front end in the air. I had to use some throttle control to keep from going over backward.

I also quickly found out you need to go easy on the right stick and throttle in the turns. My rear end washed out several times and I went down as a result. In previous games I always cranked on the right stick and hit the throttle in the turns to get through them as quickly as possible , not this year grasshopper.... Throttle control is a must in this situation now. A great addition.

Once again they did an excellent job on the tracks. My fist run on Orlyonok I was unaware of the change right after the finish jump and crashed flying into that new turn , used to be a long straight. I was also very happy to see Maggoria back on the list , always loved this track.

One strange thing to report , I'm on the series x , the first time I started up the game it looked terrible. I ran a time attack on each track and the terrain looked dull almost like it was pasted on. The ground was smooth ,no ruts at all ,trees looked like cardboard cut outs. I was ready to demand a refund. Any way I shut the game down and went to work, when I got home I jumped right back on. This time the game looked amazing , clear , clean , textures , ruts , trees , it was like the graphics didn't load correctly the first time I played. Strange , it's been fine since.

      My only complaints are:
      1. That crazy guy with the yellow flag keeps waving it when there is no one down in the area.

      2. The off track reset system needs a patch. In some spots I'll barely go off in a turn and I instantly get reset. Other spots I'll go off track several feet and nothing ,I just make my way back on.
I really wish we had the option to turn this off during single player modes.

This isn't a complaint and I'm sure it's due to covid (they must have run a shortened season) but only 12 rounds in the season is a bummer.

      3. We can't adjust the camera this year. I use the closest looking at the rider view. Last year we could zoom in for a closer view , that's gone this year.

Really enjoying the game so far.

Appreciate it JMD - and I agree with everything you said also. Some small patches needed to fix a few things, but overall the racing, bike weight, and AI is consistently solid and I had a blast doing the review.

That’s a good question, and sadly one I do not have an answer for. I only have access to PS5/XBox Series X/Gaming PC

Ok another issue to report. 3 races in to my 450 season I decided to try one of the Career Challenges. I did the first one , a race at Leon. It's a 250 class race and they put me on a KX 250. When I finished that I went back into my 450 career races and when we lined up I was still on the KX 250. Needless to say I didn't fair well and got knocked out of first place.

I would try it again to see if it happens again but I can't risk another big loss , lol.

I keep thinking of trying this one, but it seems I get really into these for about 2 days, then forget they even exist. I would love to go back to the Motocross Madness days, where I would play something endlessly just to find that nice rhythm from bend to bend.

Maybe having a weightier-feeling bike will make it more entertaining. Thanks for this write-up.

I used to play Motocross Madness 2 on the PC. The great thing about that game and in my opinion what made it better than todays games and gave it a very long life was the ability to create realistic tracks. You could create exact replica's of any real life tracks and it was great. I still have the game and hundreds of tracks on discs.

The thing that keeps me playing the milestone MXGP and SX games is , they are well done and I love the sport.
