Re: Season 4 Week 2

North Texas knew SMU was a very capable team that would be tough to stop, They have one of the best depth charts at qb. Their starter could start for 3/4 of all user teams. North Texas was also looking to get their running game back on track after last week's poor showing at Penn State.

1st half
North Texas starts with pounding the ball to Smith and eventually finds Lancaster for 11 yd TD pass. SMU answers right back with 64 bomb to Stewart because of the FS looking for a pick 6. Smith starts getting the rock again but North Texas now has to settle for a 34 yd fg. Preston starts takes chunks of a yard at will finding Moffit and Bush to setup a 10 yard TD run by Nlemchi to give SMU the lead 14-10. Dan Smith rips one 17 yards, could have a lot more but he stumbled and fell. Smith and Lewis continued to get carries to get in the redzone, but Hancock got sacked back to back and North Texas had to settle for another fg. Coach was feeling concerned about the having to settle for fgs, adjustments were made at halftime.

Halftime SMU 14 NT 13

To open the half, SMU Kieter returns the kickoff 101 yds for TD to extend the SMU lead to 8. North Texas stuck with the gameplan some quick throws and keep feeding the backs. North Texas's line looked good on most running plays. Hancock find the true freshmen D. Lambert for 18 yd TD and then to Lancaster for the 2 point conversion to tie it up 21. Preston continues finding guys leading them down the field but they miss a 53 yard fg. North Texas dodged two bullets there, finally a stop and a miss fg attempt. North Texas makes several first downs before having to punt, but they pin them back inside the 10.

Early in the 4th,Preston finds Ross for 76 yard TD. SMU just kept getting big plays. NT doesn't give up, they kept marching down the field. Lewis broke a run 24 yards to setup Harris for a 10yd TD catch. Tied at 28 now, Preston kept finding guys for 1st downs and big play to Dieter for 42yds, setups up Craft for 2 yd TD. With 2:11 On a 3rd down play, Harris beats press coverage and catches and runs it 74 yards for a TD to tie it up at 35. Preston throws a jump ball to Johnson for 75 yards with 1:58 Left in the 4th. Coach that would cost them the game.... Hancock gets into 2 minute mode, Finding Harris for a couple of short throws, then Allen for 27 yards, then Allen again for 33 yard TD. Tied at 42 with 33 seconds left, North Texas was hoping to hang on for a shot at overtime. Preston finds Johnson for 12, Dieter for 14, several dropped picks, finds Moffit for 22 yards, then Preston scrambles to throw it away...Stewart comes out on the field to attempt a 40 yard fg.... it has the distance, going toward the goal posts, WIDE RIGHT...
NT 42 SMU 42

Overtime
North Texas starts out with the ball, passes to Harper for 18, gets sacked, then finds Allen for 18 yard TD. SMU comes back with a 11 yard pass to Dieter, then Preston's pass was incomplete, Nlemchi was stuffed to -2 on the qb option. Preston's pass was incomplete
on 3rd down. On 4th down, Preston was looking for Johnson, but the pass was broken up.

Game over
NT 49 SMU 42

After the game, Coach was happy to steal a win at home. "We had no answer for Preston, but we should haven't been beat deep that many times, should have made a least one pick". The running game got back on track with nearly 200 yards rushing by the hbs, Hancock made critical plays when needed. It was the most complete offensive game that North Texas has had in recent memory. North Texas had several recruits at the game today, hopefully the great game against a rival impressed them.

GameScore 1747
Hancock 24/30 344 6 TDs
Smith 25 rushes 138 yds
Harris 6 catches 115 yds 2TDs

Preston 20/32 441 4 TDs
Ross 3 catches 148 yds 2 TDs
