Re: Season 2 Week 1

Idaho opens AT Florida... in the RAIN.

We could not stop the Fl HB who ran wild on us. There were times in the game when we stuffed him...but he got loose for some mega huge runs that were killers.

Somehow..someway.. our QB Matt Linehan had perhaps the most prolific game of any game i have ever played. 25 of 28 for 358 yds and 5 TDs. We rarely looked deep and when we did, we connected on huge plays. Linehan kept us close the entire game.

Our one chance to take the lead ended in a fumble. But its worth noting that we had a chance to take the lead. That in itself is amazing.

Aside from the stellar game our QB had... we also got a nice surprise in the 2nd half from our true freshman RB recruit. He was playing very very average in thr first half unable to get loose. However in the 2nd half we got a run up the gut into the 2nd level by shedding a tackle and then the FR made a hurdle to get into secondary and finally... one more hurdle to get into the endzone. 33 yd run i think and he got loose a few more times getting him over 100 yds. This was totally unexpected.

We gave FL a heck of a game and, other than the fumble, it was a nearly flawless performance all around. Cant remember ever playing so well on offense with no mistakes. Solid effort from our 1 star club !! (Lost 56 - 48 )

UAB RTA

The 3 headed monster that is the UAB rushing attack puts up 319 in their 62-6 win over their rival Troy. Cody Clements secured his starting job early despite tough competition from JUCO (So.) Craig Cook. Cook did get his time to shine late though and he will be a nice backup for this season before getting the starting job next season.

Re: Season 2 Week 1

South Alabama rolls Bowling Green twice, the second time 56-17. There was no stopping the running game as USA's rbs kept coming and coming for 271 yards, even true freshmen Buck Long came in the 4th and got 50 yards and a TD. Matt Floyd played well. Through 3 quarters he was 18/23/ 254 3TDs, pretty much matched his season totals from last year as the the backup. Juco WR Coleman came to play with 7 catches 81 yards, Roach also showed he can stretch the field and get past defenders. The defense caused and recovered 2 fumbles and took out their starting qb for a half the game. Next week is a bye week before UAB rematch.

Re: Season 2 Week 1

Western Michigan comes from behind to beat San Jose State 38-23. After falling behind quick 17-7 in the first quarter, WMU added 7 more to SJSU's in the second quarter. Making the halftime score 20-14. Not liking the way the ball was moving on the ground in the first half, coach PJ Fleck made the change to the Red Shirt Freshman Jamauri Bogan. Jarvion Franklin just wasn't cutting it in the first half, besides being the higher overall rated player and started, was only averaging around 2 YPC and not seeing any daylight at all. In fact, the whole offensive line seemed to have a different feel to them, not like last years ALL-MAC First Team front 5. The line was not opening any holes or giving Terrell any time to thrown the ball. Leading to many many bad, off target throws and no running room.

After browsing the depth chart at halftime, Fleck made the switch to Bogan and changed the game plan a little. Proved to be the right choice as Bogan found miles of space to run through in the second half. Carrying the ball for over 150 yards on around 15 carries for 3 touch downs. (Website not showing the game story so don't know the exact stats).

Another story of the game was how the WMU Defense turned up their game in the second half allowing only 3 points to be put up on the board. Simpkins (I think; defensive end; I think) had around 13 tackles and 3 sacks putting pressure on the scrambling QB for SJSU. The defensive backs also stepped up their coverage allowing more time to get to the QB and better overall coverage of the WRs.
