I dont have the answer to your question, but the cpu does steal for you on auto. This is what I use.

I had trouble with H.O.F pitching and had to switch to all star. I now find that I strike out the cpu a little too often now, so I am kinda in the same boat as you.

I play on Hall of fame and I control 1 team. I have everything set to auto. I only make changes if the line up goes out of wack or if players need a day off. I play every other game. These are great...

The way I hit is with guess pitch off. I also turn off all aids such as hot zone, strike zone, swing influence, etc.. I even have swing analysis off. I hit much better this way and it feels natural...

I Vote for Pitching. I think classic pitching does not give enough control to the user while meter gives a little too much making it where we cant see the differences in pitchers ability...
