Have you tried playerlock in myLeague yet? It's a whole different game but you progress naturally and can make up your own story as you go. Also no tedious "picking up the bag and going to practice...

I won game 7 against the Bulls and now Miami awaits. It were 7 difficult games so now im kinda afraight that we run out of gas in the middle of the series.

Lucky me found a savegame of my Celtics association from way back at the all-star break. I made the Rush/Crawford trade, simulated in a 3 games rythm until the playoffs.
