also, i'm seeing a loooot of jogging by my full backs whenever they have to track down a winger.

I have never experienced this to such a dramatic extent before.

In my experience i've found out this is due to the board objective.

The higher your objective, the easier it's made for you to attain it.

How many people manage to win the league fairly easily...

I suggest to pay attention to the way in which the AI can breeze through your midfield/defense with ease,
cause it might simply have to do with your formation/tactics,
or how much space you allow...

The solution is online friendlies with settings that allow for more realistic play, like 10 minute halves, slow speed (at least that's the pace that's come closest to realism over the years, dunno...
