No CPU trades in franchise mode nhl23

Running a custom franchise mode and the trade deadline is looming but there have been zero trades. Do I have to adjust sliders?

Put all the NHL Alumni On NHL Rosters.
While editing uniform numbers I found that the changes I make do not stick. I save but then the number reverts to whatever random jersey number they had before...
