I was just coming in here to post that. Those giant black bars were the biggest issue i had with the game. I never understood why there wasn't a option to remove them when it was first released.

Metal Gear Solid 1 hands down. I'll never forget getting that game for Christmas, and watching the opening scene of that game. The way the credits rolled as you played was so cool to me at the time....

Anderson is no longer on the council at the start if you put him there in the first game. Its never explained in game why(i.e. cutscene/dialog). There is a little paragraph on it in the codex.
