A friend and I just started an online franchise and well no preseason games, can all u do it trade players and play games? is there a draft at the end of the season or anything or are we just waisting our time?

We are not past year one but I can guarantee you that there is a draft. There isn't free agency unless you use a website like LeagueManager or Xtremefootball. Without those players will never be released because they don't have contracts.
