Re: Dirty Birds ; Welcome to D-Block

Falcons Send Message w/ win over Colts ; DBlock welcomes back Grimes

Matt Ryan had to watch the celebration of a SuperBowl go to the NFC as predicted, but it wasn't him hoisting the trophy. That distinct honor fell to his oldest son Cutthroat. Ryan worked tireless in the offseason in order to get his team ready to destroy all challengers this season. If Game 1 was any indication, then there might be alot of routs on the way, no pun intended. In 3 quarters of work, Ryan was rather efficient throwing for over 460 yards and 4 scores and cooking Colts DBs all afternoon. The ground game couldn't get going thanks to a stout Colts run defense, but the Colts simply didn't have enough DBs to cover all of those options. Harry scored and put up 100+. Julio exploded (pause) for over 250 yards and 3 scores. Roddy and Tony chipped in. "When we went into the film room, we saw some avenues that we knew we could exploit and it was no different in the game" - Matt Ryan. Turner carried the rock 20 times to no avail. The rookie showed some spring in those legs as he ripped off a late 29-yard run. The Game was 38-3 in the middle of the 3rd qtr. after coach Truth told the troops to settle down a bit. Next time, the Falcons say that they won't let up until the middle of the 4th. "It's up to the defense to try and stop us. Nice guys finish last. I'm done with that ****" said Roddy White.

The defense drafted some impact players and one of them won the outside linebacker spot from Stephen Nicholas in Week 3 of the preseason even though the team didn't notify Nicholas until yesterday. Nicholas took the news in stride as his team amassed 7 qb tackles, with his replacement getting 2 of them. "Spoon got 2.. Rook got 2. I'm happy for the team. I'm a team player. I just wanna win" said Nicholas who spent the majority of the game on the sidelines as his teammates ran roughshod over Andrew Luck for 3 1/2 quarters. Grimes started it off by picking off luck and the Georgia Dome went crazy. Dunta followed, then William Moore got one and then Stanford Routt picked off a pass in the endzone. Atlanta's fans hasn't seen this secondary this aggressive, maybe ever. "I'm happy to be back. The injury process was a tough one. I feel like, if I was here last year, we should've had the Lombardi. I coached up Routt, he's looking like a beast. I'm better than ever. The pass rush ain't change. The defensive run game still the same... All I see is potential." Rout actually dropped 4 picks in the game after catching one, he even jumped a curl route, en route to a pick-six but dropped it. Them D-Block boys played soft (pause) coverage for most of the 4th quarter after disrupting Luck and his receivers all game and it allowed Luck to throw 3 late scores and about 300 yards... in the 4th. Safety William Moore said "If we're winning by 5 touchdowns again... It's not gonna happen. Either one of the opponent's receivers going to the hospital... or the QB. We're not going conservative like that again."
Falcons 38, Colts 24.

Re: Dirty Birds ; Welcome to D-Block

Ryan & Slaughterhouse Shine ; D-Block causes havoc again

Matt Ryan told the Falcon fans that they have one goal in mind. If they keep moving the football like this and having an opportunistic defense, this will all make Ryan seem like a prophet. Atlanta hosted Tampa and did what they usually do to Tampa.... there was a massacre. Ryan threw for 479 yards on 66% completion and 5 scores. His lone pick of the season was on an underthrown football to Harry Douglas who got open. "Gotta make those throws. Gotta make the most of those chances. It took points off the board. We don't need that" said Ryan who was rather efficient. The Tampa defense held the running game in check, but gave up big plays through the air. The Dynamic Duo of Roddy and Julio both amassed over 100 yards and 2 scores for both of them. Harry caught his 2nd TD of the season and the rook that the vets are calling "Broken" hauled in 84 yards receiving on 3 catches. Roddy White quipped "Y'all not listenin'. Ya can't stop us all. Somebody gon' die. Somebody finna die on that defense."

The Defense played lights out again until late in the 4th where Grimes actually gave up back-to-back plays with one being a bomb from Freeman to Mike Williams that ended a shut out. Grimes attributed it to some rust after being going for over a year. The Safety tandem of DeCoud and William Moore continued to take the football away as they both notched picks on the game, with DeCoud's going to the house after breaking on a HB-Screen in the 2nd quarter. The fans wonder if Bierrman would be able to respond by filling into Ray's shoes... Bierrman already has a team-leading 5 QB tackles on the season. "As long as those front four get that push, we can excel in coverage" said DB Stanford Routt who dropped some more picks this last game. Abraham notched a few QB tackles of his own this game and William Moore added a QB-tackle to his stat-line after picking off Freeman earlier in the contest. For a defense that has labeled Weatherspoon and Grimes co-captains of D-Block, maybe it's time for William Moore to be mentioned. He's picking off passes, disrupting timing, getting to the QB, delivering bone-crushing hits and exceptional in run-support.
Falcons 49, Buccs 7

Re: Dirty Birds ; Welcome to D-Block

Falcons hold serve at Terror Dome ; Get "W" Vs Saints

The Falcons had heard about the new Saints owner and the wins that he had racked up in the shadows. The Falcons had heard nothing but good things about what the Saints were able to do on the field and because of that Matt Ryan was prepared for war. The Falcons lost the coin toss and the Saints actually elected to defer which gave the Falcons the rock first. Turner got stuffed and couldn't get the run game going. Ryan was dropped with a coverage tackle and then he got picked off on his 2nd INT of the year. Real bad opening if you're a Dirty Bird fan. The Defense got back-to-back QB tackles on 2nd and 3rd down which forced the Saints to punt. After that, the Falcons settled down and their offense settled in, and went to work. Ryan hit a myriad of targets as the Saints mixed up zone and man coverage and Ryan looked very efficient as a result. Harry got his catches, Roddy got his. Turner got his carries. After a while, you would've forgotten that Julio Jones actually plays on this team. Turner ended up getting 2 rushing TDs. The rookie Marcus Frink made the most of his touches and Julio ended up getting a 4th quarter pass in which he broke the CB's tackle and out ran the defense for a 80-yard score.

The defense played pretty well except for the fact that Jimmy Graham and Darren Sproles did alot of the pass catching for the Saints and Atlanta had no real answer for them. But all things considered, Atlanta made the best of their opportunities. D-Block was a force again. Abraham made it to the QB for the 5th time this season. Rookie Wayne Thomas was a force... getting to the quarterback, picking off a Brees pass intended for a wideout and crushing Sproles in the redzone and forcing a fumble. Not a bad day from a rookie. DeCoud picked off Brees. William Moore forced Jimmy G. to fumble. Optimuse Grimes continued his reunion tour as he was targeted 3 times this game and had 2 pass deflections and one pick to end the game and dash the Saints hopes. In all Brees was picked off 3 times, the Falcons delivered shots on Brees early and often that caused him to be uncomortable in the pocket for the duration of the game. Outside of Tony G fumbling inexplicably, the offense never really sputtered. Falcons turn their attention to San Francisco next week.

Re: Dirty Birds ; Welcome to D-Block

Falcons shine early, sputter late ; Win in OT vs San Fran

Not exactly sure what to say about this game. This game started off about as well as any game Atlanta has had this season. John Abraham was destroying the left tackle Staley no matter if it was a pass or a run play. Spoon was disrupting plays, Thomas got to the QB. Bierrman got to the QB. The Falcons were up about 3 TDs and some how inexplicably, the 9ers went on a roll and tied the game up with about 20 seconds in the game. Because of that, the Falcons needed OT where they lost the coin toss and held San Fran to a FG. Atlanta then perservered through back-to-back QB tackles by the 9ers to drive down the field. Then with a timely screen call and 2 runs from Turner, Atlanta was able to win the game late. Matt Ryan passed for 553 yards and 4 scores with his lone pick actually costing the Falcons to automatic win and it allowed SF to tie up the game. "I've got to do a better job later on in games. That shouldn't have happened. I made a bad read. Thankfully, we got another chance" quipped Ryan as he started out brilliant but faltered later on. Turner ran the football 22 more times but only amassed 71 yards on a stingy 9ers run defense. Roddy (6, 141), Harry (5, 143, 2 TDs) and Julio (6, 236, 2 TDs) were on a tear early on, but everything calmed down and when it mattered most, Ryan went to White, his most trusted target.

The defense had moments of greatness and then moments that made absolutely no sense. William Moore forced a Frank Gore fumble on the opening possession for San Francisco. Atlanta converted that into points. But Atlanta's defense gave up 500 yards of offense, again. "We always do this. This cannot continue to happen. Not if we want to get where we need to be." Falcons defenders got to "Kappy" 5 times official, but really hit him about 12 times. Forcing one play where Kaepernick just threw the football on the floor (this really happened!). ATL forced no INTs for the first time this season, but due to the timely play of the offense and the defense playing "Bend but don't break" pause, the Falcons did just enough to win. But as was started before, just enough, isn't good enough for OC, Kobe Bryant. "We wanna keep our defense, offensive."

Re: Dirty Birds ; Welcome to D-Block

Falcons Destroy Panthers 55-17

Matt Ryan had heard the talking since the schedule was put out by the league. The Panthers had gone to great lengths to ensure that they would take the Falcons out when that game was to be played. Matt Ryan filed all that away and offensive coordinator Kobe Bryant spent alot of time drawing up an offensive gameplan for Carolina and it looked like it worked. Ryan worked his way into another perfect passer rating as he completed 81% of his passes against the Panthers and continued to rack up the yards in a season that surely has his looking like the MVP that he is. "We just trying to do some special things this year" says Ryan who was optimistic about shredding the Panthers secondary apart. "They gave us some looks, and we just took advantage of our one-on-one match-ups. We feel like we can win every time out there. We got alot of those today." The Panthers run defense was stout as they held Turner at one point to 27 yards on 21 carries. But late in the game, Turner ripped off the 57-yarder to put the Panthers to sleep. "Toughest run defense I've seen" - Michael Turner. The MATTural is already looking forward to Jacksonville next. "On to the next one."

The Falcons defense had a "bend but don't break" mentality. Newton only had 202 yards through the air but they allowed 161 yards on the ground to Jonathan Stewart who literally broke about 11 tackles on runs. Linebacker and co-leader of D-Block, Sean Weatherspoon was obviously frustrated with the performance of the defense. "We're just looking to be able to stop guys when need be. We were back and forth with the momentum today, pause." The Falcons defenders got to Newton 8 times, forced a fumble on special teams and picked off 2 of Newton's passes. Stanford Routt, who usually drops picks, along with Dunta Robinson, both had picks yesterday. Interesting... The team goes to Jacksonville to play the Jags next week.

Players of the Game :

Matt Ryan 26-32 462 Yds, 6 TDs, 0 INT
M. Turner 25 car, 91 yds, 1 TD, 1 rec, 5 yds, Rec TD.
R. White 11 rec, 210 Yds, TD
J. Jones 6 rec, 134, 2 TDs
T. Gonzalez 4 rec, 46 Yds, 2 TDs

Re: Dirty Birds ; Welcome to D-Block

D-Block Destroys JAX ; Half-back Controversy?

Matt Ryan and company appear to take no days off. That's not necessarily a good thing for opposing teams as we move further along into this season. There seems to be a runningback controversy brewing in Flowery Branch at the moment because, Michael Turner was very specific in asking for a $90M+ contract, even though he's past his prime and on the wrong side of 30. Falcons GM spoke to the media after the game and had this to say "I just like to keep in-house matters, in-house. " But, with all that being said, the Falcons haven't seen the same burst from Turner as they saw last year. He was getting the same carries, but his yards per carry have been sliced in half. Turner's on averaging 2.4 yards a carry. His only big run of the year was against Carolina in garbage time where he ripped off a 57 yard run. So with Turner acting like a little girl, Coach Truth made the switch to rookie running back Marcus Frink. "Marcus is a rook, let's not get confused. But he has that burst. He has that speed that allows plays to happen. It's a more dynamic offense now." Frink went into Jacksonville and toted the rock 27 times for 167 yards and 2 TDs. It took Turner 4 games to get 160 yards.

On the defensive side of the football, Atlanta harassed the JAX offense all day, seemingly stifling them. Atlanta didn't allow 100 total yards which is beyond impressive. The defense hit home 7 times and picked off 3 passes (2 by Grimes, who is already in midseason form). Abraham and Spoon forced fumbles as well and Atlanta happened to pull away from the opposition again. Ryan got picked off twice and wasn't too happy about it. But Roddy and Julio continue to be the best duo in football and when combined with Harry, Tony and the rookie Wayne, Atlanta's offense is definitely more deadly than it's ever been. The defense is no slouch either, constantly setting edges, cutting off the run, picking off passes and hitting the QB. Atlanta heads into it's bye week at a league-best 6-0. Right now, outside of Matt Ryan, there are all smiles in Atlanta.
