Browns Defense Leads Team to Victory
Fifth Consecutive Week with 4 Interceptions for Browns
The Browns were a step ahead of the Chiefs all day
After an early wardrobe malfunction when the Browns weren't allowed to wear their orange jerseys (the first time they didn't wear them since last season) many believed the Browns' reign atop the AFC would come crashing down.
"Lots of people believe that our orange alt's are a good luck sign since we didn't start winning until we broke them out last year" said Brandon Weeden. "We had to reassure them that it isn't the jerseys, it's the players."
Going into this game with the Chiefs, the Browns have a nice lead in the SFL in terms of Turnover Margin and Takeaways, including intercepting the last 4 quarterbacks they've played four times each (Luck, Schaub, Roethlisberger, Dalton) and wanted to frustrate Jay Cutler into turning the ball over.
They succeeded. Rookie linebacker sensation Antwon Russell started off the pick fiesta early on, Thomas Howard returned one to the crib in the 4th quarter, and SFL pick leaders Terence Newman and Joe Haden also got in on the party.
David Gettis had his best day in a Browns uniform as he beasted on cornerback Javier Arenas today for 136 yards on 6 catches including 1 TD. For the third straight week in a row, Travis Benjamin garnered a lot of attention from the defense, but still had 145 yards, with the majority coming on an 84 yard catch and run.
The Browns harassed the Chiefs all day, but next week face yet another daunting challenge when the New York Jets come to town led by Mark Sanchez and Stephen Hill.
