Jaguars Fall to Colts in Overtime

Jacksonville Post - Jacksonville, FL

The Jaguars ended their season by taking the Colts into overtime but falling in the end.

The Jaguars end the year 2-15, surpassing some expectations but falling short of their own. "We were unlucky early in the year with injuries and, unfortunately, we couldn't overcome. We made strides late in the year and look forward to the off-season" Coach JGreg said.

The Jaguars will enter the draft with 4 picks in the 1st 2 rounds, courtesy of their trade with the Lions. It is unclear whether the Jaguars will trade 1 of their 2 88+ rated LTs or trade multiple picks and players to move up in the draft.

"We aren't going to talk strategy. But we have a lot of positions that need upgrades and we will do everything we can to address those needs through the draft and free agency".

The Jaguars had a number of free agent acquisitions this season, no telling who among them will stay.

Stay tuned for the latest Jaguars news.

Jacksonville Jaguars SFL Season 2 Pre-season Preview

The Jacksonville Jaguars will go into the off-season with a plan to overhaul almost every aspect of the team. With 4 picks in the first 2 rounds, the Jaguars hope to find quality players to elevate their team.

Last season, Cecil Shorts III was a 1,000 yard receiver. Justin Blackmon, who served a 4 game suspension early in the year, ended the year on a hot streak. Free agent QB Derek Anderson quietly made large strides with offense, making many wonder if the Jags will draft a QB with their 1st pick.

Defensively, Jonathon Cyprien led the defense, forcing fumbles and making plays all over the field. A lot will be riding on how he performs next season.

Rumors report that LT Eugene Monroe might be on the move, and that the jags are actively searching for more of a bruiser back to compliment Jordan Todman's fast style.

Jaguars Off-Season Outlook

The Jaguars' War Room is ready to go, packed with booze, cereal, chex mix, sloppy joes, and other random assortment of goods.

The Jaguars have quietly made a could of key free agent signings, setting up their defense for the switch to the 3-4, and adding playmakers on the offensive side.

Gone are:
Jason Babin
Mercedes Lewis
Derek Anderson
Eugene Monroe
Tyson Alualu
Stanford Routt

In their places:
Trumaine Johnson
Ron Parker
Tiquan Underwood
Scott Wells
Brett Keisel
Karlos Dansby

The Jaguars had very inconsistent defensive line play last year, a result mostly of using 4-3 guys in a 3-4 system coach JGreg admitted. But this season, they have gone out and loaded up with good veteran talent. The hope from the GM staff is that these guys will be bookends this season while allowing the younger guys to grow and mature into the system.

Offensively, with the exception of Mercedes Lewis, not a lot has changed from the skill positions. Many expected the Jags to pick up free agent quarterback Josh Freeman, or trade for a backup signal caller. The Jags didn't go after anyone, leaving many to assume they will select a signal caller with their 1st round pick, 2nd overall.

Time will tell...

Jaguars Surprise Most, Pick Reed 2nd Overall

Many people expected the Jaguars to go with a QB with their first pick. However, the brass decided to continue bolstering their defense, selecting who most scouts think will be a yearly pro bowler.

With their 2nd pick, the Jaguars selected QB Andres Waskumundzki.

"We had a plan going in and it worked for us. We really want to put a defense out there that can hang with these offenses in our division. You look at the guys we play, its obvious you need a great secondary and can get pressure. We also knew we needed a QB. Now, don't ask me to pronounce his name. But his mechanics and arm strength definitely wowed us. We felt this draft was very deep with QBs, and at the end of the day we got the guy we had targeted. We took a risk that he would be there, and he was".

The Jaguars were then able to grab a speedy running back in Clifton Knowles, later in the draft (5th round) getting a bruiser back in Russ Pickett.

With their 3rd 2nd round pick, the Jaguars went back to defense, selecting Jelani Rebmann.

The 3rd Round saw the Jaguars select another defensive lineman, Jamaal Huguenin.

The Jaguars hope one of these 2 can play defensive tackle for the club this season.

In the 4th round, the Jaguars selected RG Jordan Ogbonna and RE Shakeel Mikell.

In the 5th round, the Jaguars selected TE Spencer O'Connor and RB Russ Pickett, an obvious byproduct of the Elon connection coach JGreg shares with the running back.

In the 6th, the Jaguars were able to grab RE Trevor Glaud.

In the 7th, the Jaguars took umm we forgot.

There was an obvious need to take front 7 defenders for the Jaguars. Hoping to find a guy to put in at the DT position in their 34 scheme.

Jaguars Finish Pre-season 4-0

11/6/13 - Jacksonville Post

A sign of things to come? The Jaguar faithful (all 5 of them) sure hope so. After an impressive pre-season, the Jaguars made final roster cuts and determined their opening day starters. There has been a lot of pre-season buzz about the team that went 2-14 just a year ago. What does coach JGreg think about all this? Stay tuned to find out...

Jaguars Fall to Titans in Season Opener

The Jaguars kicked off season 2 in Tennessee. It would not be sweet however, as the Jaguars could not fall on their forced fumbles.

It was a game of missed chances for the Jaguars. Forcing 4 fumbles and only recovering 1 leaves a sour taste in one's mouth.

The Jaguars defense played alright, allowing Chris Johnson to break one long run but otherwise keeping the Titans in check. Led by SS Johnathon Cyprien who had 6 tackles 1 FF 1 Sack. The tale of the game was in Chris Johnson's 74 yard TD run, half of his yards in the game off that run alone.

The Jaguar offense sputtered out of the gate but found their stride late. Rookie QB Andres Waksmundzki got the nod and played mostly well, missing a few crucial passes but going 13/24 for 214 1TD 0INT. QB Matt Scott saw game time, throwing 1 pass for 7 yards and getting 1 rush for 19yards and TD. Rookie RB Clifton Knowles touched the ball 18 times, gaining 75 yards. The Jaguar coaches stated in preseason the need to get him the ball more.

The Jaguars will play the Buccaneers next week in their home opener.

Jaguars Rebound, Beat the Buccaneers

Jacksonville, FL

The Jaguars had a successful home opener against the Buccaneers, coming away with the 24-20 win.

This game was as much about the defense as anything else. The defense, led once again by SS Johnathon Cyprien (3Tack 1INT 1FF), held the Buccs to 1 redzone score out of 4 chances.

In one CRAZY turn of events, MLB Carlos Dansby intercepted Glennon at the 1 but was carried into the endzone where he was tackled, giving the ball and 2 points back to the Buccs.

QB Matt Scott got the nod in this game, owing to his maneuverability in and outside the pocket. He played more of a game manager in this one, but he played it well, throwing for 233 yards on 13/16 attempts. Rookie RB Clifton Knowles ran 18 times for 107 yards and 2TDs.

The Jags hope this propels them to a string of victories. Next week, they play the Bengals in Cincinnati.

Jaguars Match Season One Win Total With Win Versus Bengals

Cincinnati, OH

The Jaguars traveled to Ohio this weekend to take on the 2-0 Bengals.

The Jaguars came out on defense and after letting up a long kick return, dug their claws in and shut down the Bengals in the redzone. That would be the story of the game, as the Bengals were unable to score a TD in the redzone.

The Jaguar offense, again led by an effective Matt Scott, marched down the field and scored a TD with their rookie RB Clifton Knowles.

It was a defensive game as neither ground game got going and the hard hitting Bengals secondary forced 2 fumbles, 1 of with was returned for a TD, the other resulting in 3 points.

Justin Blackmon lit up the Bengals secondary, going for 10 catches and 171 yards. His only bleak moment came early in the 4th when he caught a swing pass and coughed it up, allowing the Bengals to take the 19-14 lead. The Jaguars led a methodical drive down to the Bengals 6 yardline. Taking over 4 minutes off the clock, RB Clifton Knowles found the endzone again on a 6 yard toss play with :21 seconds remaining. A failed 2 point try would give the Jags the 1 point lead.

The Bengals would try to find AJ Green over the middle who was covered by rookie CB Drake Reed and MLB Paul Posluzny. Posluzny found the ball and returned it until time ran out.

Coach JGreg had mixed emotions out there after the game, "I thought we really held them in check. They had 1 long kick return, and 1 long pass when our guy missed on the tackle. Other than that, their defense made their plays. The Blackmon fumble was almost a killer, but our guys stayed with it and trusted each other".

SS Johnathon Cyprien was amazing again in this game, getting 2 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT, 2 Batted balls, and 3 pass breakups on Gresham.

"We thought he could take on Gresham 1 on 1. And he largely succeeded. Gresham made a few plays, but he lost a lot of balls he normally catches thanks to the tight coverage and hard hitting attitude that Johnathon (Cyprien) brings to the position".

The Jags are in action next week against another AFC North foe when they host the 1-2 Steelers.

Game Notes:
Matt Scott threw his first INT of the year this week when a jumping Maluaga came down with a 3rd down pass.

Clifton Knowles has 4 TDs so far this season.

Good game Goins.
