We ran an unusual version of this concept against UMASS in 2002. It was more of a double slot slant towards the middle. The ball was passed to the reciever on the right. When he caught it he continued to run on his slant pattern until the other slot reciever (who started the play on the other side of the formation) ran behind him and pitched it to him. That play got us down to the 2 yard line.

This was more effective than your usual hitch and pitch since most of the defense will be running in the wrong direction or taking the wrong angle to stop the pass reciever and no one is thinking of a pitch man coming across the middle.

If a pitch is made effectively, the defensive player's momentem will make it easy for the pitch man to get to the sideline and scoot up it.
