I use Shannon Sharpe, and I have yet to play against someone else who uses a gold TE. From my experience, I like running 4 main routes with him (posts, corners, ins, and outs) and I imagine that is majority of routes you will see your TE running. I've found the best way I feel his is neutralized is if you have your MLB in a short zone, to help stop crosses over the middle, cover the TE with a CB, and have a safety giving help over the top for the posts and corners. You may still be vulnerable to out routes, since he is a route god with speed burner, but you're not gonna see out routes all the time, and a short outside zone can stop that sometimes.
