Oh God that's so sad to hear man. The team was practicing early and everything, they were all set to do some big things. Doesn't sound too good, I'm not optimistic about the sounds of that at all.

More like bad news for NBA fans, and any fans of traditional low post players.

Even as a Celtics fan, that is disheartening.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Trail Blazers center Greg Oden, the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, will undergo exploratory arthroscopic knee surgery later this week because of pain in his right knee, the team announced Monday.

An MRI taken last week showed Oden may have some cartilage problems, general manager Kevin Pritchard said.

A timetable for Oden's return will be set following the arthroscopic surgery, which will be performed Thursday in Vancouver, Wash.

This isn't Oden's first health problem since the Trail Blazers selected him in June. He had a tonsillectomy in July after struggling in two Las Vegas summer league games.

DANG!! I really was looking forward to him playing this year. I hope he gets everything corrected and is able to play safely this year. Will definitely be nice to see him, Roy, and Aldridge doing their thing whenever they get playing time on television.

He's young still so i'm not worried. A more polished Oden with healthy knees from mid season on is what i would like to see. Does suck for Blazer fans, but they could not of been serious about being contenders this year.

That's basically the same type of report released about Penny Hardaway and Amare before the big news came out that they required a complete reconstruction.

Agreed. Kinda sounds like how Sam Bowie started his career.

Look on the bright side though, Penny and Amare will be playing this season together in good health. There's hope for Oden. Tomorrow is the big day of truth. Let's hope it goes right.

Greg Oden , the Portland Trail Blazers' No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, will miss the 2007-2008 season after knee surgery on Thursday, two league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Oden, the 7-footer out of Ohio State, underwent exploratory surgery on his right knee on Thursday in Vancouver. The extent of the damage was not immediately clear, but Oden, one of the most celebrated young players in years, will be lost for the season.

The Blazers are expected to make an announcement shortly.
