Re: 2007 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Team owner Liberty Media revealed in a financial report filed this week that the Braves had robust revenue and cash flow last season. And team CEO Terry McGuirk said the Braves were profitable and will spend "many millions more" on next year's player payroll.

Sounds good... whether it's actually put to use or not, though, remains to be seen.

EDIT: And an update on the Glavine front...

Quote:
Tom Glavine's return to the Braves is getting closer.

Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton, met Wednesday with Braves general manager Frank Wren over lunch in Phoenix, and Wren reiterated his desire for Glavine to rejoin the team.

Negotiations could proceed quickly if the Braves make Glavine a competitive offer. Glavine, after earning a total of $10.5 million from the Mets last season, is willing to accept a discount to return home to Atlanta, but not a steep discount.

"They feel he can play a key role and put them in position to contend for another world championship," Clifton told FOXSports.com. "They know how much he wants to do that.

"(Wren) mentioned how much (manager) Bobby Cox wants him back. They're really close. Obviously, that's important. The (John) Smoltz factor also is important. That's his best friend."
