Since it doesn't appear there is going to be a whole section for backbreaker quite yet, I thought I'd make a thread dedicated to its discussion.
For anyone that is unawares, Backbreaker is a new football game being developed by Natural Motion using their own Euphoria technology. What this means is, now tackles will no longer be canned mo-cap animations. Instead, Euphoria basically simulates the human nervous system, and in every tackle it takes in to account height, weight, speed, momentum, limb speed, and a host of other variables in the outcome of the tackle. This does not mean rag doll effects either, players will brace themselves before they hit the ground rather than looking like they have no skeleton.
Also, from information gathered from the developers interaction on the other forums, tackles will not be the only part affected by the engine. Now the receiver will reach to make a play on the ball, no more vacuum animations. Battles in the trenches will be made much more realistic and pile-ups after fumbles are possible.
Earlier this year APF2k8 was released as the first attempt to challenge madden in realistic football. While this game did allow you to customize your uniforms to an extent, there was much more to be desired. It has been confirmed that logos and uniforms will have deep customization options in euphoria, but nothing specific has been said. In both IGN and 1up previews, they have pictures with helmets that have their own logos, leading us to believe you will be able to create them ala Pro Evolution Soccer or Forza. In other words, we will be able to recreate the NFL.
No specific game play features have been confirmed, but every month the developers are releasing a developer diary and answering one question from the Backbreaker forums. Here is a link to the first two diaries...
October: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/828/828188p1.html
November: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/838/838035p1.html
November Question: http://forum.backbreakergame.com/showthread.php?t=182
A release date has been rumored but not confirmed as June 15th.
So this is here for everyone who is anticipating/intrigued in/wants to know more about Backbreaker. I don't think I'm the only one here fed up with next-gen football, particularly Madden?
Cheers,
-Chad
