    Re: All-Pro Football 2K9 Benched

One beautiful thing about this game , at least for online players, is the roster never gets outdated. I think this is going to be one of those cult games. 5 years from now when Madden still sucks some kid who is 12 years old now will be 17 talking about "Hey guys remember that game where you could play as OJ and it played real well? Better than this Madden 2014 garbage. Do they still make that game?". That's when we can gouge him for $$$ LMAO

Release it in early June when everyone is clamoring around for every football tidbit of information that they can get and people wilk buy it. If it sucks, they would just trade it in for NCAA / Madden anyways, but 2k already has made their sale.

If October + is what you are suggesting for a release date, then the people in charge of 2k have absolutley no business sense whatsoever.
you can't say that because no one has done that before. preseason anticipation is big, but so is 'during the season excitement'...plus by then most people are already done w/ madden.

I'd buy it in any month!

I own 2k8, but to be honest I'm anticipating Backbreaker more than any football title this year.

LOL ... I couldn't take the site too seriously ... evidently, it is just a couple of guys trying to build a name on the web. When I first read the whole .. possible interviews with people at 2K yadadada.. and just having no real credible sources to back it up, I knew then it was nothing more than a plug. Not too difficult to rationalize.

You should read the entire thread before you launch a baseless attack against someone.

Sorry, my bad ... I don't know what came over me.

"What I find interesting is how people around the Internet want to turn a blind eye to the harsh reality that Take-Two is inevitably bound to close or sell -- as if it's always going to be around. Whether most want to admit it or not, the clock is ticking and at the end of this nightmare will be EA standing. The actual thought of this happening, truly sickens me."

                      Re: All-Pro Football 2K9 Benched

Mark Cuban is the biggest name associated with the UFL at the moment, but they seem to have a solid plan on how to build a league. A $25-30 million salary cap, so the players will get decent money, even by NFL standards, and each owner has to put up the money to keep the team running for 3 years.

Will it work? The odds are, I'd guess, about 50-50 the UFL lasts for more than 3 years, but they ARE learning from the mistakes of the USFL and XFL (among others).

It's not hard to see the opportunity for 2K Sports that the UFL would bring. They'll NEVER see the NFL license again, but a UFL game lets them create a Franchise mode that everyone understands (tell me how you do that with NFL legends) and they could allow you to expand the UFL league to NFL-like numbers of teams (just leave the create-a-team mode in from APF).

Being able to release a new game EVERY year is very important too, as you spread out development costs. I bet it would cost less to get a UFL license for the first few years than it did to sign all the legends.

I will say that if VC is doing some work on a 2K9 game, that is encouraging, even if we don't see it this year. They may try a 09 release, and see how that goes, before calling it a day on APF football. I think you could argue that by then the number of nextgen consoles sold will be in the 30-40 million range, and thus better odds of bigger sales for a niche type football game.

I suppose I shouldn't trample on your optimism, but everything about this game was "dated" the day it was released. That's why a grand total of 200,000 (or whatever it was) bought it at retail.

I hope you're able to find someone willing to play this game 5 years from now, but I highly doubt it. My conversation, however, would go something like this:

"Hey, do you remember when 2k tried that All-Pro Football game, and you'd score a touchdown with Barry Sanders, and instead of handing the ball to the ref like in real life, he started doing the Dirty Bird and talking trash? Man, that game SUCKED! And it didn't even have franchise or anything. Too bad GameStop doesn't accept it as a trade-in anymore because there isn't much of a profit margin to be had buying used games for $.50 that they can't sell for a dollar."

                        ...and (hopefully)...

"Man, I'm so glad that Finn's editor version 9.1 came out so Puja could do his NFL 2k14 rosters for us. Especially now that Madden re-upped their exclusive deal with the NFL until 2019. Now, if only we can find a way to transfer Original XBox saves over to an XBox 720..."

The UFL (or whatever it's called) will be history just as quick as the XFL was. Nobody wants to watch a football league in which Eric Crouch is one of the top draft picks, nor does anybody want to play a game full of NFL wash-outs, has-beens, and never were's. Not to mention that the "league" only has 6 teams if i'm not mistaken. The league has already been postponed due to financial support. I doubt it will even get of the ground. The UFL is the last thing that could possibly save APF. A "Winning Eleven-style" game would've been the much better option, and still would be IMHO if the game were to actually still somehow get the green light. But don't hold your breath.

THE UFL; , how do I watch it when it comes out? Is it in bed with a specific network? When is the first game supposed to be (in nfl offseason? - that would be great)
I'd sopcast this sucker if it does take off.

Let's try to look at it this way. This game can easily be played for as long as we want it to be. There aren't any roster updates or serious changes they can't just make an update for. If they really want to, they can just release a pack with a ton of legends or a pack w/ FPF and Franchise and such. The only reason NFL games don't follow up with games from 07 in 08 is because they wouldn't sell their new game if they just put out roster updates for last years. 2k doesn't have to worry about this with APF. Thus, the game can be timeless if 2k makes it that way.
