Five Sports I'd Like to See in Videogames
In his debut OS article, Noah Weber, has put together a list of sports that would make great video games.
We all know that major sports like football, baseball, basketball, hockey, and soccer are faithfully recreated in videogames several times a year. These days, even sports like tennis, rugby, NASCAR, and golf, receive the videogame treatment. Generally, a sport is only made into a game if it has a solid fan base of potential gamers to make it worth the developers while. But what if that wasn’t the case? What if you could pick any five sports to be played on the digital playground?Tags: None -
Great suggestions.
I would love a Lacrosse game, but there is a pretty small market that is further fragmented into field lax and box. Personally, I love both sports, but they are very different.
Utlimate frisbee is a fun game, and would translate nicely into a video game.
A six man volleyball game would be much more interesting than the arcadey 2x2 beach vb games that have been done. High level hardcourt volleball involves more complex strategy and would be a bit more interesting to play.Comment

They need to make a lacrosse game. Between professional indoor and outdoor lax, college lax (huge on the east coast and spreading out west) and high schools, there should be a big enough market to support a company at least giving it a 1-year trial run.Currently Playing:
MLB The Show 25 (PS5)Comment

On your selections Noah;
lacrosse and field hockey while having slightly different mechanics would seem to play to close to regular hockey to make much of a difference.
Ultimate Frisbee® might work as a NBA Street V1, 2 type 'create a player/at the local park kinda thing.
Volleyball, who remembers Super Spike Volleyball from the TG16? A fantastic game, that was everything DOA wasnt. (those Russians would kill you).
Sepak Takraw, would work just as well as a great volleyball game, though I dont know if it has the same appeal.
My own;
One of my favorite sports, Sumo, Creating your Rikishi, working your way up from a lowly jonokuchi to yokozuna... and theres so many different ways you could handle the mechanics, button mashing, twin analog ala Fight Night. If done right Id be in heaven. I think a few sumo games have been made in japan, wether they were any good or not I dont know, plus this has very limited appeal.Originally posted by Alexis de TocquevilleThe America Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.Comment

YESSS. Lacrosse! I played in college and I am amazed they can not make a game out of it. It plays a lot different to hockey and would make a difference...i mean they are not even on skates just for starters, never mind the strategy is a lot more similar to basketball then hockey. reallym it is a fusion of every sport and would be awesome if done by a cool company like 2kComment

I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.Comment

I'm really surprised there isn't a volleyball game out there these days. If I remember back to the Nintendo days, volleyball was a real important sport. I'd also imagine that this could be a game that would be a blast to play online (whether it's beach or indoor).Comment

lol, I go to a private school and we have women's field hockey we always make fun of them saying it isn't a sport. It sucks though because we play in SPC (southwest prep. conference) instead of state because of it. If we were state we could win 3a football. We always get 1st or 2nd in SPC.WUSTLComment

Re: Five Sports I'd Like to See in Videogames
I still have the lacrosse game on the PS1 (I forget what its called though). Besides the freezing I didn't mind it at all, but the problem was that it froze every other game or so.
I really wish there was a harness racing game, because my grandparents owned a bunch of horses who raced harness, but they only have the thoroughbred games (like Gallop Racer etc). Also, as a Canadian, I have to throw in the curling request.Blue Jays, Blackhawks, AuburnComment
