Re: Madden 09 Hands-On Report: Pasta Padre

Per Pasta's post about EA needing to open up the running game explains why most/almost all vids are PASS HAPPY!! Bottom-line, from what I am seeing the running game will barely exist. Let alone the RB animation we saw in the animation vids.

I am happy about what I am seeing from Madden this year. But, they need to get a running game in order to call this years game a complete football sim.

Like I said, I would like for pasta to clarify what he means. Playing on All-Madden and averaging 4 yards a carry doesn't seem that bad to me.

Maybe I am misunderstanding his original comment.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Yeah, he said running was consistent and gains could be made. He was just concerned about the seeming lack of big plays in the running game. Hopefully that is due to fairly limited time with the game and more balanced running. Big gains don't happen every game (for most teams) so hopefully it's a challenge to break one, not impossible. We'll have to wait and see.

            What up CB!

Even to support Pasta's comment, the vids really don't show any running game what so ever. Have you seen any? When I did see a run it was that god aweful hit from behind and let me carry the defender on my back a few yards animation (they need to get rid of that).

It was a limited amount of time with the game, but maybe looking into opening up the run a little more at least in All-Madden. I wasn’t bothered by the production, just that there didn’t seem to be potential for a big play from a run.
Huge red flag here. It says theres a problem with the blocking, dumbing down the HUM players, psychic defense is ineffect, or the dreaded speed cheats. The same old thing.

You've seemed to be able to read an aweful lot into that statement. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't see how an entire list of "cheats" or glitches can be drawn from that satement.

                        thats what it said?!!!!

Damn, I just got that he was able to run the ball effectively, but not able to bust open a big gain. Also, I noticed it said "limited amount of time with the game"

We are talking about Madden right? Since when have those not been prevalent in Madden?

No but he said he had the sense that long runs would be a problem. The same kind of language was applicable to NCAA 2005. You didnt have to spend much time with that game before you realized that that game was ridiculously tweaked to curb long runs...and the reason they did that was to make stats realistic as a way of hiding problems with gameplay.

so you really didn't get all that from that one statement. Thats good. I thought my reading comprehension skills were getting stale.

Again, not saying Madden doesn't have problems. I just don't turn every statement made by anyone about the game into a "red flag" about the game. I haven't played the game, so I can't know...and neither can you. Anything we say about it would be pure conjecture...despite what we "know" from previous versions. Pasta's impressions were overall quite positive, but I'm sure that's a"red flag" also

Edit: My apologies for the negative tone of the above post. I normally don't let these things effect my responses. If you want to be negative about the game, it's your business. I just don't see the point of not being constructive about it. I, myself, am on the fence, but I do appreciate the obvious efforts made by EA (at least some of the devs) to try to get this game back on track
