We've been over this a hundred times fellas. Some say the speed is too fast, some say it's too slow. The bottom line is I say the speed is just right so let's just roll with that and move on to something else.

Actually, I think this is a big deal, because I can see both arguments.

I feel a distinct difference in game speed between when I'm hitting a hole and when I'm in the open field. Maybe this is how it should be, but here's how I read it...

Personally, I don't think it's too slow. I like the open field speed... the speed at which players run. Maybe a tish too slow for some, but I like it right where it is.

However, what is too fast is the animations and changes of directions. The speed at which you can cut does not mesh with the speed at which you run. It results in a jerky feel.

I think players who do a lot of deep passing and outside running are going to feel the game is too slow. Players the run up the gut and throw underneath are going to find the game too fast. This is the problem with twitch gameplay, and why I think they need to bring back momentum/inertia physics.

      ************************************
Now, on to the reason I opened this thread. Despite all that; the more I play this demo, the more I like this game. The animation and juking systems are outstanding and make a bigger difference than perhaps any gameplay change in the history of this franchise.

Every time I score, it's different. The gameplay is so much more varied now. I love it. Definitely so replay worthy stuff. It reminds me of Winning Eleven in the way you can do so much with an animation driven system. It's awesome.
There are two types of people on OS: Those who disagree with me, and those who agree.

The first kind is wrong. The second is superfluous.

wow, i must admit that i have lost total faith in easports cause of the trash they put out the last few years on next generation..i guess they finally realize that people were starting to catch on.. thanks for update rosters on nfl2k5..that game kept me occupied..BUT it looks like ea has stepped it up..FINALLY!!!....im actually excited again like back in the days with ps2 and xbox...i was impressed with the demo..the model of the players is the best i have ever seen and the graphics overall is great...the gameplay has gotten much better...YES!!..looks like it going to be fun...now, my faults about the game: the sideline player can be a lil bit better and more interactive like all pro football and the passing mechanics are a lil annoying..is it just me or did anyone notice that either the pass is a bullet or super, super lob pass...u try to lob in the flats, the quarterback throws mad HIGH..enough time for the opposite safetly to make the tackle...i know its the demo but i truely hope they fix that..please ea do fix that.....damn, i cant wait till the 15th

Since we can do all the roster editing, recruiting, disciplining etc.... but we can't make the plays our team will run? Isn't anybody else a little upset about this? I can understand if you play campus legend mode and are only the player but when we run a dynasty we are essentially the coach and we cannot come up with innovative playbooks....isn't that how coaches make their name?

Its been years and I am still just dismayed that companies don't add this stuff. You can take al ot of the other crap as far as I am concerned but a play editor would seem essential.

To me it is the OL/DL that are way to quick and spastic. Watch how fast stunts, blitzes and cross blocks happen it is like they all morph into a spot right after the snap. I wish I could get our high school lineman to play like that!
I am assuming you're a coach, I am too. You know, NCAA has never had a play creator, much to my chagrin. Madden always had the play creator. I played video football way before I started coaching, and didn't think much of how it developed play calling skills, clock management, ect. until I read an article clear back around 2000 in AFC about Tony Dungy playing for such reasons. He compared it to pilots in the flight simulator. Recently read that Penn State puts their offensive playbook on Madden for qbs to study over the summer. There is a product out that uses the Madden engine and has a play creator, it is designed specifically for coaches and players, but the name escapes me and I have had trouble finding it anyway when I did remember the name. Wouldn't a game like that but NCAA be sweet. What a teaching tool that would be.

You won't get much support on this board about play creators or any feature that will create a true coaching simulation. More are interested in how you celebrate with the mascot after a touchdown and the right striping on the socks of Sam Houston State, whatever. I gave up the notion of a play creator years ago, and to be honest I have sold out on this game...I play it in spite of all the features I find important that are missing.

I think NCAA 2000 or 2001 had create-a-play in it. you could make 6 or 9 plays. I would settle to just be able to customize your playbook and add what formations/plays you want to use in your playbook, instead of being forced to use the playbook already in the game.

It's crazy but, I had played several games of the demo and except for a deep seam route against a cover 3, I hadn't seen any deep balls thrown by the cpu (except for end of half/game hail mary's). The last few games when I've stacked the line of scrimmage and blitzed, the cpu has thrown deep. One time I was totally shocked when I ran a man press and got beat on a lofted not bulleted deep post.

I think that the cpu QB's rush to get rid of the ball too soon, too often vs. pressure therefore leading to quicker throws and less deep passes. However, when the cpu picks up the blitz and the QB hangs in there, they will throw deep.

The only problem I have with the game is that EA rates some players too high and others too low but that's not a big issue since we can edit them. Also it's funny how a big defensive tackle from Ohio State can chase down Ryan Perriloux in the open field...I can understand a non athletic quarterback being run down but a DT is not gonna run down Perriloux or Tyrod Taylor in the open field.

If enough comments are made, perhaps a game speed option/slider might be included in a future version. After all, it isn't exactly a revolutionary idea....infact most sports games offer it.

Well EA claims the college game is played at a faster paced....although every sports analyst would say the NFL game is so much faster....so go figure.

Doesn't almost every rookie in the NFL talk about having to adjust to the speed of the game?

Re: NCAA Football 09 Demo Available: Discuss Here

I didn't like the demo at all when I first downloaded it. I thought there the game was still crap and didn't feel right. My biggest problem, though, was that I just wasn't used to the controls. I adjusted them last year so they were more like the PS2 version, and that screwed me in the long run. Now that I'm used to the controls, I am really having fun with the demo. I put a whooping on LSU last night 28-10.

All I can say is I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the new dynamic where the safeties shift and move around before the snap. It's great to be able to make presnap reads and adjust the player's routes to exploit where I think the weakness is going to be.

                            EXAMPLE:

Last night I had the ball close to the right hash and had called a pass play - ace formation with two receivers and a TE on the right side. The free safety lined up like normal, then started creeping back and over towards the middle of the field. The strong didn't move. Immediately two things came to mind: cover 1 or cover 3. I already had my tight end running a quick out, so I hot-routed my two receivers on the right side to a 10 yard out route and a streak. Sure enough when I snapped the ball the free backed into his deep zone and the strong stepped up into the hook/curl zone while the linebackers all dropped into coverage. Cover 3.

Let me explain some basic football really quick. Because it's cover 3 the streak route is almost completely taken away by the deep corner on that side, so I'm left with the high/low option of the ten yard out and the quick out. In real life, this is a gimmee throw, because the linebacker has to choose one guy to defend. If he steps up you throw over him. If he backs out you throw under him.

NOW COMES THE TEST OF THE GAME.

In previous versions this linebacker was able to miraculously cover two receivers at the same time. On this game, however, he dropped back, I dumped it down to my TE no problem, and ended up with a nice six yard completion. That one play made me so happy....it finally works the way it's supposed to.

This doesn't always work, of course (meaning presnap reads). Many times the CPU will disguise their coverage or shift around like crazy trying to bait you into doing something. But that makes it even more fun, IMO. Also, the slip screens are things of beauty. Simply gorgeous when run correctly. The linemen finally block downfield for you and the back sells that he's blocking first. Bravo, EA. You finally got screens right (it only took 10 years).

                            -----

One major major problem: I HATE THAT THE CPU IN SUCH A HURRY ON OFFENSE! They routinely snap the ball with 16 seconds left on the play clock. I can't even make any sort of defensive adjustments. BigWill33 over at MM told me "The producers addressed the cpu snapping the ball so quickly, they said they did research and the majority of the gamers didn't like waiting for the cpu to snap the ball. And that they would rather have a faster paced game."

Well la-de-da. Basically we're penalized because "the majority of gamers" have ADD. Fantastic.

And by the way, I've said for years that there needs to be a CPU QB Awareness slider. That would make things so much better.

It doesn't really matter b/c you're only playing up to your level of competition. When watching college football, to me, stuff happens at the same speed as the NFL. Sometimes the NFL seems even SLOWER b/c everything is so pick apart and studied these days, players know what's going to happen on every play.

For example, if you watched that Texas vs USC game a few years back, you can't say it was slower than an NFL game. You only play up to your level of competition.
