I dont think they know how to do this in real life. If they did, there would not be busts and under performing players. I think a simple grading system in key categories per position based on your front office personnel's skill is ideal.
I know that linemen, for example, get graded out after each game. If you keep it simple yet informative, you will get the most knowledge about your player.
