That didn't look realistic at all. Looks like it could be fun though, as an arcade fighter that is..::..::::::::.:.:.:.:....:::.:.::::..:.:::....:::: ...:..::."When you're an assassin, you don't have a conscience"-Gilbert ArenasComment

Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Video (Gamespy)

If that reversal animation that Quinton does twice is the norm that will suck. There's no way someone can just flip someone like that. Hopefully that was because the guys playing were talking and weren't really playing normally. Also, I'd like to see a different animation when kicks aren't going to land. For instance, I'd like to see the fighter hold up on the kick and spin around like you would normally see. Other than that it looks very good and like it's a lot of fun to play. I just wish we didn't have to wait until Spring 09 for this thing. How about giving us that demo on Live to whet our appetite?PSN: ScoopBrady

Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Video (Gamespy)

looked great to me. I love the dirty hits, and noticed as rampage was in a mount raining down on griffin and the ref got close and on one knee as if he was getting concerned and thinking about stopping it. I also like how forrest has actual chest hair in the game, but think they will find a way to have created fighters somehow all be chest waxers lol .. like fight night or other games like that - what do they have against chest hair?

The kicks look good to me, better than the punches, but the reactions to being hit on the ground look good to me, as does the real-time damage.

Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Video (Gamespy)

I think the problem was that neither guy was trying to stop what the other was trying to do...so we couldnt see the depth of the game...we didnt see any of the following which is probably in the game

 1. blocked punch
 2. blocked kick
 3. stuffed takedown attempt
 4. scrambles
 5. Trying to maintain position.

Hell the original UFC games had all of those things...so I assume that this game does. I am not too worried yet...I just hope they have online play so i can rip into people. The original UFC for the Dreamcast is my fav all time fighting game....hell if i could get online play with that I would still be playing it.Comment

Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Video (Gamespy)

I hate to be a negative Nancy (or whatever the term is), but it just looks... Bad.

All the talk surrounding the game is about realism, yet nothing looked real. From the constant wide open punches to the face at the beginning of the video, to the way the fighters just sit there when they go down and literally look at each other and just take turns punching. It's like they're actually waiting to let the other person nail them in the face before they do the same.

And then as Scoop mentioned, what's with that reversal? It just didn't look natural or realistic at all. And seriously, once he reverses he sits on top of Forrest and punches him in the face over and over again while Forrest shows no attempt to even cover up.

The fight would have been stopped right there, and Forrest knocked out.

Then the way he throws himself into side mount. Absolutely no attempt by Forrest to keep him in the half-guard, or to get him in his full guard. I mean he literally just lays there and lets Rampage do whatever he wants. There's no attempt at all to do anything.

There were also the leg kicks. The player would keel over every time he got hit in the leg... I've seen a lot of UFC fights, and I rarely see people react like that to a leg kick. In fact, I'm surprised I didn't see any leg blocks by the defender - I see those ALL the time.

It's great that they're doing a UFC game - but they need to stop talking about how they're striving to make it real - because it looks the exact opposite. It looks like an arcade fighting game in which there's really no blocking, and players can just reverse at will.

Maybe the guys playing just suck at the game and really didn't show the game to its true effect. Maybe the AI will play a lot better, and maybe you'll have to play better against the AI to actually win... But the way they displayed it, it just looks like an arcade fighting game.

I'm also probably one of those tough to please guys. When someone says something is going to be realistic, I really want it to be like that. It just didn't seem to me from any of that video that there was anything realistic about it.Last edited by MC Fatigue; 07-30-2008, 04:54 PM.Comment

Re: UFC 2009 Undisputed Demo Video (Gamespy)

well, lets be real for a second. MMA is too complex to be captured into a videogame...there are too many dimensions to it. That being said, it can still be a fun approximation of the sport. My expectations for the game is that it is more "real" than previous games and that there is online play...and I still think that it is a possibilityComment
