I don't think this is correct. Take your average box score, and add up just the rushing and passing attempts from each side, and you're near 120 (or more, in some instances).

I did the for my hometown Bears for 2007, excluding the OT game they played. On average, they had 125 plays from scrimmage in their games (exclusive of punts, FG, kickoffs). For the most part, until the end of the year, they were pretty balanced passing/running so this total should be reflective of other teams as well.

Are people seeing around 120 plays from scrimmage, on average? I was able to get 122 last night by calling plays immediately on every down, but that was an outlier. All of my other games up to that point were between 100 and 105 plays.
