Backbreaker Hands-On (Gamespot)
Gamespot has posted their hands-on preview of Backbreaker.
"Consider Tackle Alley, a small feature which was the only playable part of Backbreaker today. Initially meant to be a simple tech demo, the feature grew in popularity, and not it will be included in the final game as an additional minigame. The idea is that you play as a lone runner, whose goal is to make it from one end of the field to the other, while avoiding a host of psychotic defenders looking to cripple you at every turn."Tags: None -

Re: Backbreaker Hands-On (Gamespot)
that's fine. However, sell it to us then. There's little to no in game footage, and tons of Euphoria hype, yet people are hailing it as the savior of the EA dominated football genre. Just having Euphoria physics doesn't make a game great, look at Star Wars Force Unleashed. That game has both Star Wars/LucasArts and Euphoria physics going for it, and impressions are that it could be average at best. GTA 4 would have sold well regardless.
2k even had a built in fan base from years of top notch competition to EA, that made the unlicensed APF2k8 a largely community hyped game. It still price dropped months after release and sold like 300k copies. If Backbreaker really is something special, and has a 2008 release, SHOW IT OFF!! Madden and NCAA are already out, so there's no danger in showing what they have at this point, supposedly months from release.Last edited by bkfount; 08-25-2008, 10:59 AM.Comment

It's worth keeping an eye on this "project" (I refuse to call Backbreaker a "game" until we see anything suggesting that title would be appropriate). But I don't see how anyone can have high expectations for this game. The ONLY thing we've seen so far is a bunch of teaser trailers with last-gen player models and a few cool tackles.
This game is fast becoming the "Too Human" of sports titles. That's what happens when you keep going to the press hyping concepts, as opposed to working on a finished product.Comment

That link didn't tell me much, other than that there seems to be a message board for Backbreaker that nobody posted on since July 2008.lol. no. go here, bro.
You can refer to my 8/25/08 post in this thread where I refused to treat this as a legitimate "game" project. This game and APF 2k8 were supposed to be the two football projects that would save football on 7th gen consoles, and both have been unmitigated failures, for different reasons.
I never saw anything that would suggest this was anything more than a physics project or "proof of concept" video. The best we could have realistically helped for anyway would've been a new NFL Blitz ripoff.Comment
