I've never had so much grief in my life over a video game. I'd be ripping my hair out if I had some. Instead, I kicked my TV in. Don't tell me I need anger management because I've showed incredible patience with this game.

Thanks for the patch EA....it fixed alot of issues and made the game enjoyable.......FOR THOSE WHO DONT WANT TO PLAY SIM FOOTBALL and have only been with madden for 5 or less yrs that is.

The real issue with 09 is this...

Its garbage. Please face it. For all the good things, and YES there are some, There are DOZENS of negatives that just show up after a couple games. Playcalling AI is PATHETIC. Late game AI ruins MOST games (CPU PUNTS 99% of the time from my 33 yd line even when a FG could win the game.)

Thanks for delaying the CPU snap speed...BUT...Now the CPU will just run out the clock in a 2 min drill. they now rush to the line and then take an average of 11 secs to snap the ball...WHILE THE CLOCK IS RUNNING and with 3 TO's and trailing.

Teams ALL PLAY THE SAME or PLAY NOTHING like what they do. (Minn throwing the ball 38 times and running 11 TOTAL).

The OL STILL, 10 yrs later CANNOT BLOCK FOR CRAP! Slide protection or not

WR run like they have blindfolds on and are oblivious to what their routes are.

QB STILL to this day 20 yrs later can drop back 20+ yds, throw off their backfoot falling backwards and throw a pass w/ PINPOINT accuracey 50 yds downfield. Not as bad as yrs past, but it IS still doable.

WHERE are trick/gadget plays? We had em last yr and now we dont. EVERY SINGLE team has them...Several actually!

Why are the playbooks so crappy? Why do we not have a play editor?

I could list 50 more things and NONE are cosmetic and NONE are regarding presentaion.......

Thanks for the patch EA at least you are trying to make an effort. But when the game is garbage and from those who know FOOTBALL it is a disgrace to the game itself.

Please oh PLEASE stop catering to the noobs and casual football fans......Make a game like you used to. A sim game where your KNOWLEDGE of the game MATTERS and not your knowledge of EXPLOITS/GLICHES.

Back to NHL 09. You should sit with EA Canada and take some tips from them. Shortcomings aside, A STELLAR TITLE and 1 that has won me over for the 2nd str8 yr......And i am not the only one.

Good luck with 2010......I think that will definitely be your make/break year. I dont think too many faithful are gonna hang on too much longer!

PS If the NFL renews your exclusivity license then they are FOOLS!!

Here's a topic for you; since patch #2 my game will not load.

After explaining the situation over the phone to EA's customer service department, the conversation went a little like this......


Customer service: "Have you.....?"

Me: "Yes, I've tried that."

Customer service: "Have you.....?"

Me: "Yes, I've tried that"

Customer service: "Have you.....?"

Me: "Yes!!!!!"

Customer service: "Well, I don't know what to tell you"

Me: "Great"

I believe he then may have given me the finger through the phone, at which time I asked how many other calls he's received with people having similar issues. He's response...."I'm not allowed to give that information out."

So, unless another patch is in the works or some kind of statement is released where Tiburon acknowledges this situation; I'm going to DHL this game to Peter Moore in a styrofoam cooler, and it's not going to be alone.

i too have bought NHL 09 for the second straight year and i'm not even a hockey fan. but the game plays so well it's a must buy. especially for my friends who come by to play it.

EA, i appreciate the effort of you allowing Ian and Phil on here to communicate with us, but shame on you for putting out a poor product 4 straight years. not that it matters or that you care, but unless you continue putting out Madden for the ps2 or last xbox i won't be buying Madden again...

There's no way they're giving $35 for a trade-in of any game, let alone a sports game.

Is that the price they're selling it for used?

According to their website:

Madden 09 trade in: $28
Madden 09 used: $54.99

The XX edition may have been slightly more (probably 30) but there is no way they were ever giving $48 for a trade in.

This is just another case of anyone can type anything they want on a message board - accuracy be damned.

I know you are enjoying the game and franchise, shortcomings aside. You are one of the biggest supporters of 09, and that is not a bad thing by any means. Your comments and statements have always been welcomed and in many cases helpful and uplifting.

With that said, what game are you playing? Are you usually easily pleased? Are you a football fan? And by fan i mean...do you know the difference between a post and a flag route? Do you know what a nickel Defense is? You get my point.

While madden is still a game and your sig says alot. Do we really think video games can mirror real life? the answer is yes...Kinda. As of now madden does not play the game of football like....well, football. Issues have remained for Y E A R S! While there is fun to be had, the shortcomings both pre and post patch CAN NOT B IGNORED.

Some are willing to look past its flaws, Most are not. Walk into any game store that sells pre-owned games. there are alot of returns. Do you think those returns are from just casul sports gamers? Hell NO.....The returns are from those who want to play a REALISTIC-ish sports game.

Madden 09 is rubbish, and i gave it ALOT of chances. With Ian on 2010 there is hope. but he NOR EA can expect to make 09 ANY better. Fix easy things that slipped by in testing, which they were 100% aware of BTW. But at its heart, MADDEN is trash and has been for 4 yrs now!

I have been with madden since 88. Have seen it grow and draw praise. I was on of the ones at mid-night release before they really started making a big deal about it. Madden has regressed....FAR! EA needs to STOP catering to the casual fans (give them their OWN GAME PLEASE!), because THAT reason is why the game is going downhill. It never catered to US back in the day. We had to LEARN to get better.

EA get your head out of you ***. The hardcore sim players got your series here, and now we are the ones being ignored!!!

If I enjoyed being number in rush defense every season, no matter which team I choose, I'd be enjoying the game, too.

I am playing Madden '09. I've enjoyed the series since it began many moons ago and in my opinion this game either topples or is close to its predcessors. And yes, I am a football fan and yes I know the difference between the post and flag routes and what the Nickel defense is.

Thank you for assuming that I must be an idiot when it comes to football to enjoy Madden '09. Its greatly appreciated.

I think the problem is that people think that I believe the game is perfect, which couldn't be further from the truth. There are things that I don't enjoy about Madden, that irk me, and things that aren't here that I wish were. The thing is, I don't dwell on these issues. Despite its shortcomings I can still enjoy the game. And despite what many may think, in my opinion the game does a good job of simulating what I see on Sundays. Now maybe that puts me in the minority, but that shouldn't make me an idiot or my opinion wrong.

Every game has its shortcomings. Granted some games have more than others. But what someone has to ask themself is whether despite these "limitations" can I still enjoy the game? For some its yes and for some its no. Neither side is wrong. Its a matter of opinion.

If you want to just sit and play from time to time and really are OK with the shortcomings, the madden IS fun!!



But if you are a SIM player and look for a nice representation of the NFL and its game (which it holds in SUCH HIGH REGARD BTW) then MADDEN is 100% TRASH!!!

Ian, i hope you see this.If you and your team want input from fans, i could supply a list of 103 MUST have fixes for 2010. YES, 103! I sat down with 3 friends a few nights ago. While decideing where to go we started alking madden, why? IDK. We came up with a list of fixes for.....wait for it.....GAMEPLAY. NOT presentaion or halftime shows, NOT ESPN usage, not silly crap...GAMEPLAY. ALL 103 of them are REALISTIC achievements given your development cycle and all will improve the gameplay as a whole.

At least you can move on from 09, cuz at its heart it is a failure as a representation of the NFL!!

has anyone heard from Phil or Ian? They have been pretty quiet since the patch#2 release. I really don't know if they are working hard on trying to fix the continuing freezing issues, or if they are hiding until the smoke clears..

An update from one of them would be nice.
