Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3 Only For Now)
Also to conclude everything, the game still feels like 2k8, with smoother animations. The demo is pretty decent.
I noticed I couldn't run any plays and that was a turnoff. Other than that, the animations are smooth, isomotion is now some sort of area or position contextual system as I couldn't do my regular crossovers from 2k8.
The AI is still pretty dumb and predictable as passes are easy to pick off.
The stealing animation is better and has more of a risk/reward factor to it.
I don't like the AI being wide open and still taking fade away learner.
Mismatches can easily be taken advantage of. Ray Allen caught Gasol on him and drove to the rim and got the and 1.Comment

Demo is awesome. I loved the way the players moved and worked to get open. I had Gasol in the post, kicked him the ball w/Kobe - Gasol held the ball up as Kobe ran around, got free from Allen and I passed the ball back only to have the ball lobbed up and Kobe flush it down!! Looked like something right out of Sportcenter. First day buy for me, no doubt.Truly Blessed -Comment

Yea, I spent some time practicing the Pick and it's probably the most fun about the game right now. First of all, notice whether your PF or C has a white circle under them - usually it's the one closest to you. When you press O this is the guy that reacts to your command.
Tap O = Fake pick and roll, I did this with Gasol a few times and he barely cares about setting anything, he plants that backfoot and then launches off toward the basket. Hopefully this can't be cheesed online.
Press O = Regular PR, the same thing you always see.
Hold O = Pick and pop, once you go around it they hop back a step and wait for the pass back.
Also, I remember hearing this but totally forgot until someone mentioned it. I really loved the behind the back dribble move and haven't been able to do it...so the L2/R2 really are your hands basically? That sounds needlessly complicated, I'm a shooter not a dribbler!

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3 Only For Now)
I finally figured out the isomotion, I've had the revelation, lol. I dropped 15 with Kobe in a game I just played with four insane dunks including a windmill on Perkins and KG. Ray Ray just kept playing me tight as hell so I'd blow by him every time. That DIT slider is going to be going down, down, down. Also had a few nasty pick-n-rolls with Gasol. I finally hit a game winner, down 10-9 I had Bynum set a pick and headfaked with Kobe when the screen was being set, took two dribbles to the middle of the court and burried a wide open elbow jumper as time expired.
I love how the match ups are so much more realistic this year. Big guys can't stay in front of guards and you can really work to exploit mismatches like a IRL. It's even easier w. the new isomotion, it's quick, easy and effective.
I'm also yet to win the tip off after about 25 games.

I was able to finally win multiple tip offs by pressing traingle repeatedly before the ref throws it up -
I also just saw Pierce alter his shot on me!!! I recall in Pared's posts that he had not seen the CPU do it - It was a straight up drive by him and went up with the right and up and undered it to the left and in - sweetness.

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3 Only For Now)
Some other things I'm noticing now that I'm also getting the hang of things.
What I said before about lock-on D...not only does the game remember your lock-on assignments through rematches (I think), but it remembers them by player. If Odom switches to Rondo and Fisher switches to Allen, Odom will lock-on dead center giving Rondo space while Fisher would lock-on playing tight and shading to Allen's right to force him to his weak side. That's a great feature that really helps immerse the feature into the game.
And shading in general is SUPER useful in the post against a guy like Perkins, you can absolutely deny him the basket if you cut off his strong shoulder.
edit: Apparently if you're right on the guy when you hit lock-on though, it'll switch to a tight lock on automatically. kind of a bummer.Comment

Man, I still can't get to the basket, but I don't even need to with Kobe any more. Now that I have that back-step-dribble down, and the mid-range is opened up more, I can break Ray Allen down seemingly any time I want to from 12 - 15 feet out. So sweet, so pure.Comment

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3 Only For Now)
I just threw a just flat out nasty oop to Odom... he had to reach back to catch it and throw it down... Fast break, Kobe goes to the left, throws it behind is back to the right to underhand the oop to a cutting Odom... Odom reaches out and throws it down.
A Bynum block started the whole 2 on 1...
I'm having a really good time with this Demo. Once I figure the controls out, should get even better. After tweaking the game, I'm thinking we'll have a really nice NBA Sim on our hands.Twitter - WTF_OS
