Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
Love the demo and can see it's an obvious improvement over last years version.
The only obvious thing i'd change i think is to tone down the dunks a bit. I was controlling Ray Allen and cut baseline and he did this nasty (as in Vince Carter dunk contest nasty, not Ray Allen nasty) windmill over Gasol.
Other than that as fan of nba basketball i don't see how anyone can be dissappointed with this game, it's by far the most accurate reproduction of professional basketball ever made and that's just judging from the demo and video's of the full version.Comment

What about LAN or any other multiplayer? Where did you see this information?
Even if there isn't even multiplayer, I'll probably still go with it since I never play these games with anyone anyway.Comment

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
Am I the only one having trouble playing post defense? I know that in 2k7 (PS2) you could push / shove the guy you were guarding out of the post, but I haven't been able to do that, or front my man so it's they're establishing pretty good position time and time again...Comment

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
Anyone notice the glitch with Lamar Odom in the demo (360)? His legs are pencil thin, and it's really noticeable when he's at the free throw line.
BTW, this game/demo is off the chain.
It looks like 2k has done it again....should be a great year for simheads.Comment

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
I really enjoyed the demo. The 1st thing I noticed is how much smoother the controls feel. In 2k8, it felt like the animations got in the way of feeling like you had control and that seems much improved now. The animations are still awesome, if not better than 2k8, but I actually feel more in control of them.
I thought the graphics were a nice step up from 2k8, too, especially the skin textures and player faces. My wife said, "That's the jaggiest game I've ever seen," but it doesn't really bother me. I kind of expect 2k's games to be jaggy. It still looks great, though. I'm playing on a 46" 1080p Samsung LCD and the videos I saw online really didn't do the game justice.
Definite purchase for me after playing this demo.Last edited by born_bad; 10-03-2008, 07:07 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
Only thing I can seem to do in the post with any consistency is hook shots and fadeaways. If someone could post the controls for the post moves and isomotion that would be great. I haven't bought a bball game since 2k5 and am kind of out of the loop. Played 2k8 for a couple days but not enough to get all the controls down.
One other thing I'm noticing and don't like is that if you're backing down and let up on LT they'll do this small hop step automatically. Really annoying and I've gotten a few traveling calls because of that.
Also is it just me or when passing to someone running towards the three point line, like if you're running down court and want to kick it out for a quick three, do they seem to either stay put or even take a step AWAY from the 3 pt line for anyone else?Comment

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
I'm so impressed with the AI In the demo, the way the CPU works off screens etc. And finally having the ability to take a opponent off the dribble Is off the hook!!!Comment

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
The post moves are executed almost exactly the same as last year.
Here are the BASICS
L Stick
-disengage by pulling away from opponent
-Hold R Trigger to Back Down
-Hold R Trigger and press L stick towards the Ball Hand to SPIN around opponent
R Stick
-press and hold any direction for contextual shot, i.e. hook, fade etc
-tap in a direction for ball fake
AFTER A BALL FAKE, you can
-tap in a direction for another ball fake
-hold in a direction for a shot attempt
-execute multiple fakes, attempt no shot(stop) and then go back to your hook/fade options
Y BUTTON
Spin/drop step
The demo is set to pro, so if you do the up and under(tap left/right with R stick, then tap opposite direction) with Pau or KG, you'll score every time they don't double you.Comment

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
I just managed to play 3 quarters in one game no so long ago. I thought for a moment that I was going to be able to play a full game on the demo but at the end of the 3rd, the menu came up asking if I wanted a rematch.
Best game I played on the demo to date because I was able to do my first allyopp from Fish to Kobe with a one handed dunk. Everytime I've tried it, Ray Allen always seemed to get a hand on it so it was quite good to finally hit an allyoop.
I feel the pick and roll in this game is the best it's ever been, no other game has ever made the pick and roll look real enough but 2K9 seems to of nailed it on the head. Live looked good in the demo but after playing 2K9, it can't match it.
I wish we could see the little menus we got in 2K8 like Quick Iso or Quick Post Up, that made it easy to understand and they might be in the full game but I haven't seen them in the demo and therefore, I have no idea what the dpad actually does.
I've also got to get the Live demo out of my system, with Live not using the shot stick, I've gotten use to press X on the 360 when going for a layup or dunk instead of the shot stick, once that is done then the 2K9 will be alot more enjoyable.Comment

Re: NBA 2K9 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
Yeah, the up and under isn't as responsive for some reason. Last year they had to tweak it, in the patch. I'll wait until I play the full version before I can give a more accurate assesment though.Comment
