Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Demo Available, Impressions Here
Thats the way I feel after playing around with the demo. Its just a glossed up last gen game. Im really not impressed, and I seriously wonder how much actual 'work' Seabass and team do in an average year.this would have been a good game 3 years ago, but w/ the advancements that fifa has made, pes really needed to make a truly next-gen title. imo they have not. the graphics are cartoonish & more importantly, the controls are very clunky- not upgrading the 8 direction movement is dissapointing.Comment

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Demo Available, Impressions Here
I dont know how someone can come on here and still claim FIFA is better. I play FIFA every night because I love soccer games, but again, FIFA is FIFA. I think people only claim FIFA is getting sooo much better cause it was soooo bad that anything decent makes it look great. Every FIFA has a money play and this year is like the last and the year before that, and that, and that.
People complain Seabass didnt put in enough effort. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Let me get this straight. You have a Ferrari, then the Ford makes a nice sports car, and because its miles better than the Mustang, you can it to be better than the Ferrari?
This is a joke. I love soccer so I will always buy FIFA first since it comes out first, but there is no way that, if you love a TRUE simulation of SOCCER, then PES is the one. FIFA is holding me just fine, but Im not looking for an arcade game.PSN: Peji911Comment

What a terrible analogy. If anything its like Madden, they keep putting out the same game and people still lap it up and beg for more.Comment

Even though I really like the PES franchise it hasn't made any great strides. Why did they add a Champions League mode when they still don't even touch the Master League which has been the same for years. I am happy that they finally decide to bring the NA version months earlier this year because previously it was disgusting.Comment

You might be surprised by FIFA when you get it. Comparing 06 to 07 is an apples and oranges type of thing. As is 07 to 08 and believe it or not 08 to 09.I dont know how someone can come on here and still claim FIFA is better. I play FIFA every night because I love soccer games, but again, FIFA is FIFA. This game is so much different/better than 08 that I think most will be pleasantly surprised....and I've been a PES guy forever! BTW, I'm not saying the game is perfect either.
I'm not sure what "money' play you could be referring to in '09 unless you have an early copy in Canada. Have you played the game?Comment

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Demo Available, Impressions Here
Which game are you saying is like madden... fifa?
And its a very good analogy. PES is Amazing, ie, a ferrari. FIFA is good but just good, ie a Mustang.
A ferrari, like PES, doesnt need to improve much, whereas FIFA did and has... but its still a Mustang.
People who love ML, LOVE ML. And they have made "changes", just small ones. I agree that more could be done but why when, in essence, you dont have enough teams licensed to make it worthwhile? For example, they could have a real 20 team league with the bottom feeders. Well, they dont have the second division of any league, so its pointless. The general setup of ML is perfectly fine for what it is.Even though I really like the PES franchise it hasn't made any great strides. I know it has improved drastically, but just because FIFA has taken big steps and PES hasnt doesnt mean its a better game. It's like Man U and Man City. This year City took HUGE steps and on paper you're like, 'wow' but one or two changes that Man U made still make them a better team because they didnt have to take that big a step because they're already a good team. You might be surprised by FIFA when you get it. I own the Wii version, which is absolutely horrible (stupid FIFA stuff like not being able to choose a high or low is annoying and the AI always chooses the dumbest choice). And I have the PC version.
While Canadian, I have been living in Australia for about a year and will until late November. So I have their versions of the game and have had them for a while -- they break street dates here.PSN: Peji911Comment

Uh no, PES has been Practically Everything is the Same soccer since 6. PES still has tons to improve on, only 8 directions of movement, pathetically boring master league, bland graphics, the ability to do tricks like...fast step over and the amazing slow stepover, sloppy and even flat out terrible online play, the list goes on and on. The fact that you think that they dont have much to improve on suggests to me that you are a giant PES fanboy.Comment

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Demo Available, Impressions Here
You know I didn't even notice the 8 player direction movement until the next gen versions. I remember playing Pes 6 at a friends house on his 360 and I was wondering why they moved like that. Nevertheless, I want back to the PS2 version, if I still had that game I would still play it, no joke.Comment

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Demo Available, Impressions Here
Ahh. That's the problem right there. Those versions are boring and they are still current gen. If your comparing PES to that then you're spot on.
I understand what you're saying about how FIFA gets more praise because they had bigger changes to make so, they're more obvious. I even said the same thing in a few posts last year. If it wasn't for the fast game speed I would have preferred PES over FIFA for all of the reasons I have the previous years.
For 09, you should compare both next gen versions and you'll be surprised. The new collision system, player movement, many many more animations and, last but not least, the Custom Tactics FIFA 09 may finally overtake PES in terms of realism.Comment

The PS2 version is still a helluva game. When my xbox broke, I bought PES2008 for my PS2, and its THE EXACT SAME GAME they put out on 360. Its unacceptable to me, this demo has done little to change my views.Comment

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Demo Available, Impressions Here
Exactly! I think they have simply gotten lazy. FIFA developers work a hell of alot harder than the PES team these days. There is simply no excuse for the way Robben looks in this game for example. The game is distinctly last gen with a hint of shine and new shorts. I can say I think it is a more fun demo to play than the Fifa demo for me but it simply does not cut it. We are in the final two years of next gen consoles lifespan and this is what they have come up with? The same game with a hint of a tweak here and there since PES 4? I have to say im very disappointed here. I wish 2k sports made a soccer game.Comment

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Demo Available, Impressions Here
Finally got to the play the demo albeit it was only one game. I used Italy and played my brother who used France. I remembered the many reasons why I was addicted to older PES versions like no other video game.
The unpredictability of the way the ball moves, the first touches, the smooth game play, it actually gives you total control (or close to it). I won 2-0, and my first goal was a thing of beauty. Pirlo received the ball in the middle and his first touch was a little off as it bounced a few yards away but he got to the ball before Viera did. I managed to get a nice looking chip through pass to Zambrotta down the right side. Zambrotta put a well timed cross that Del Piero succesfully headed home.
My second goal was a run by Del Piero down the left, then a fake shot that left my brother in the dust, a pass to the middle and a Luca Toni strike and goal!
Looking forward to playing a couple more matches tonight. The graphics are alot better (although not up to par with FIFA), and the gameplay is back to its good ol' self.
I'll still be getting FIFA regardless to see how it plays out since so many are saying its PES with a twist.Comment

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Demo Available, Impressions Here
After playing more of both 360 demos I am not feeling it for FIFA.
While FIFA may have better graphics I find it throws too many effects and filters on the screen leaving it looking a bit fuzzy. PES looks more crisp and fluid but not all that 'next-gen'.
FIFA has a ton of AI issues still and no matter how far they have come it still feels like a game of pinball. PES has so much more interaction between a ball handler and defenders and I don't see that in FIFA. In FIFA defender approaches, gets to ball carrier, defender gets ball - and it doesn't really matter who is on either side of the ball. In FIFA you spend all your time passing from player to player to make sure a defender doesn't get close. In PES it is not an overwhelming concern because the steal is not a guarantee. I also think the ball physics, passing, shooting and net are far more realistic in PES.
My problem though is PES has a lot of shotcomings off the pitch. So many so that I don't know that I want to invest $60 in it. I know FIFA is a more rounded package but its shortcoming are far more critical to gameplay and that is something even harder to compromise when it comes down to forking over $60. Overall I think I might just sit it out this year and drop my $60 on one of the other great games coming out this holiday.Comment

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Demo Available, Impressions Here
Football is not the same as table tennis. No real football game looks like PES 2008, and that's really the only point I need to make when I say that FIFA 08 was vastly superior to its competition. If I were to further explain my point, I'd also need to touch upon the weightless feeling of the ball physics, the exceedingly unrealistic pace at which the players move REGARDLESS of remaining stamina, the absurd reflexes of both the CPU keeper and players (they always respond to the shooting animations of my players a split second after they're initiated! o.O), the wild, artificial unpredictability of the CPU keepers, which will save everything in one game and let in 8 goals in the next one, the unrealistic shooting, the sometimes baffling officiating, the AWFUL passing compounded by unrealistic closing down mechanics, and the list goes on.
I was an enthusiastic supporter of PES up to the 6th installment, which was nothing short of brilliant. And granted, FIFA 08 is not devoid of faults, but it's far better than the mockery that PES 08 was, and thus, the FIFA series has definitely secured the support that once belonged to the PES series. I loved the FIFA 09 demo. I'm now downloading the PES 09 demo, and hopefully it will impress me again, just like PES 6. I'm not keeping my hopes up, though.Comment
