Re: Phil Frazier Says No 3rd Patch or DLC For Madden 09

wow this is a major disapointment I thought for sure ea would atleast give us real sliders for madden 09 but nope they don't care about the customer so why should we care about the product... I love football so i'm stuck with madden 09 what sad is that ncaa 09 is 100 times better than madden because it has real sliders and online dynasty which is pretty good . But maybe one year ea can actually give us a good game right out of the box without any bugs or dlc neede. I mean how in gods name do you let a sports game go out in production without giving it real sliders.... horrible. I like madden 09 online but thats it

I'm sort of over this, but what bother's me is that they could have just incorporated some of these features into their 2nd patch if they weren't going to do the DLC.

The guy who mentioned the fumbles and how several players went after the ball as it squirted away on Monday night has a point. Why don't we ever see stuff like this in a football game? It is 2008 for God's sake. Where is the atmosphere of the NFL? It just isn't quite there in EA's game. I know I will get flack for this, but it was in NFL 2K5 a few years ago? And no, I am not trying to get into a NFL 2k5 fanboy debate. Just making my point.

The NFL is the one who is truly responsible for us having a not so great NFL experience by eliminating competition. We should all take it up with them. When is this contract expiring? We should all sign an online petition and send it to them.

Look, I don't think Madden 09 sucks. I think it is much better than last years game overall. But, I do believe competition would improve Quality assurance and the overall quality of the game. There just is no excuse for the testing going on over at EA. I used to work in the video game industry so I think I have a leg to stand on. Anyone that thinks there is, is just an EA fanboy.

It was extended until 2012 last year. So that means at least three more years of no competition.

There are patch limitations imposed upon EA, particularly by MS. MS and EA had a deal where EA got to do two free patches for Madden through an agreement. However, the total size of those patches cannot exceed XX MB. The EA guys said the accelerated clock feature alone would have exceeded the patch size limit. As for the cpu sliders, I don't know about that.

NFL 2K5 is the PLATINUM STANDARD when it comes to NFL Football gaming....Madden has fumbled (intentionally) every year since they have had the license...Why don't people want to accept that fact. Anytime a new game comes out and people are already talking about "Can we get a patch to fix this...." or "Next year they need to finally do X,Y and Z"....that is not good for your game...because that means it is almost a defective product. EA releases these games to get you to continue buying year after year. Look at what they have done with Madden over the last 4 years....Only one REAL innovative thing and that was the Lead-Blocking controls...other than that...mmmmm...Save your money!

I'd like to see guys pull up with injuries during the actual play, not just lay on the ground after.. Like a WR or cornerback pulling up lame with a bad hamstring while in coverage, or running a route and the pass flies over the WR head as a result, or the receiver gets wide open as a result.

                Now that would be awesome.

I guess this should go in the wishlist thread..

EDIT: oh yea.. helmets need to fly off also, but only on the hardest of hits.. I have seen helmets fly off at least 3-4 times this years already.
Tell me that wouldn't fire you up if you rocked your opponet so hard his helmet flew off.. lol.. it used to be in the game, and should be put back.

and previous maddens used to let you perform late hits and get personal fouls.. that should come back as well.

ok, i'll stop now as i am really going off topic.. there are just so many missing elements in this game its hard to control myself sometimes.

I don know Ian mentioned working towards injuries reflecting on the field, but I don't know how much of a priority it is for him at this time. I agree it would be another thing that would go a long way towards helping the immersion issues with Madden.

doesnt' that happen with all games though? I mean, we can all agree that NBA 2K9 and The Show are probably two of the best sports simulations on the market today, and both had people asking for patches and wanting "X, Y, Z" to be implemented within a month of the game's release. Thats just the nature of the beast when it comes to message boards that discuss video games.

As much as I've been disappointed by EA and Madden, I don't think they do it intentionally. I just think it's laziness.

                          That's an exceptional point.

While I do think EA has been putting out less-than-average products for quite some time, there is a component here that falls on our expectations. Gamers from way back when didn't have these lofty expectations. But I think that with the advent of the new technology, we've all been expecting things that, simply put, can't be achieved.

It's a microcosm of our culture. *mwjr gets up on his old fart soapbox* Information is available nowadays instantly. People are connected to everyone at any given point in time. Text messaging, instant messaging, facebook, the internet - we've become so spoiled in what we want and when we want it. If something isn't perfect right out of the box, then we're angry. Consequently, if that product isn't fixed immediately, then we become even angrier. We want it. We want it perfect. But, most importantly, we want it now.

                          It's just not that simple.

Now, I don't expect a perfect game out of the box. It's just not possible. But there are games that, although slightly flawed, are a hell of a lot of fun. That said, the problem for me with Madden and EA is that we're not talking about small flaws, or simple features we'd like to see. We're talking about major breakdowns. In NCAA there was the roster glitch and that god-awful AI. (Remember the videos of the CPU defenders running away from the ball-carrier?) In Madden, we're talking about a woefully lacking franchise feature, the WR direct snap feature, lack of stamina impact et al. We're talking basic functioning features of a next generation game.

Expectations must be managed. However, we should expect, at the very least, the basics being addressed in a sports game.

I was in no way excusing the shortcomings of Madden with my response post to his. Just pointing out that patches and fans wanting more happens with all video games, not just Madden. It seems sometimes that people think that Madden is the only game that does/needs patches. With that said, it may need more than other games, but it certainly is not the only one as some would want you to believe.

That's a good point CB. But after this year with two dev's in the mix, they should know plenty of what this community wants. It is very well voiced. As I'm sure you already know.
