Re: 8-10 Min Sim Sliders (Addressing Several CPU Issues)

Holliday, I think I eliminated all the cheese aspects of the CPU play....I used your sliders as a basis (very solid) and played a couple games.

Here are my thoughts, and would like for you to try out and see what you think....

Turn UP "look for post player". With all the PiP problems, it seems like the common thought is to turn it down, but the majority of the PiP comes from cutters and flashy passing. By turning UP the look for post player to about 90 or 95, they dump the ball in the post, and if defended they look to kick out, which is how NBA teams run their offense. I saw a lot more jumpers this way, and the PiP went down to 1/3 of total points, which is what we're aiming for! By also turning down the handling and flashy passing, it seems like the CPU doesn't dish to cutters all day either (unless they're wide open). I also turned CPU offensive awareness to 30.

I still feel that the CPU grabs too many off. rebounds, so I notched it down even further.

and my Hum/CPU speed is at 30/18 which seems more fair to me...a difference of 10 I still saw cheap speed boosts by the CPU. This also reduces their fast breaks which seem to heavily contribute to PiP.

    What you think?

And I turned off CLUTCH factor and set them to 0 as well....it seemed that with it ON, the star players became Greek Gods from Olympus when their team is trailing

pbz, you're right. under more experimentation, a 12 pt spread on speed seems perfect now.
The offensive rebs is so annoying, but I have been having the majority of my games turn out the way they might in real life. A 30pt spread between your Def Rebs and the CPU Off Rebs at the LEAST is a MUST though, or else Hinrich will be snatching boards off the offensive glass over Dwight Howard with regularity.
I saw the idea of raising the Look for Post tendency in another thread, I think it's worth a try, I will go into the practice lab with this when I get back home.
The clutch factor I just raised it to showcase the more clutch players and give incentive to get them the ball in pressure situations, and just to add that drama and fear when playing humans. it's so funny seeing my brother sweating all over his controller cuz it's down to the last possession and he's got a 1 pt lead and knows Kobe's taking the shot. But that's just a preference; that's up to you.
LOL "Greek Gods from Olympus" I laughed out loud at that

Thanks for the tips pbz, I'm seeing some sweet bball after raising the Look For Post tendency, putting a 12pt gap between my speed and the CPU speed, and I put a 35pt gap between my Def Rebs and the CPU Off Rebs. Also, I lowered their Ballhandling to 35. Gonna stay in the practice mode lab with this for awhile, tweaking as I go

Sounds good. Hopefully I'll get to play a lot more games to test it more but I think you're on the right track...but between work, GF, and various things it's hard getting more than an hours worth every night, if that.

i'm liking the look to post player slider so far (at least 90). We will probably have to test it out with various strength settings to find a good balance and make sure it plays realistically. So far it has worked wonders for me though and the PiP has gone down dramatically (which is ironic, but makes sense afterall). I played against phoenix and they fed Shaq or Amare realistically...not EVERY time, but it was definiately their priority. If I held my ground, they either dished out to a spotter or cutter.

the key here is also that the game will make human double on good post up players AUTOMATICALLY without you calling for double, so let say shaq gets double n kick it out to bell who was the guy the feed him the ball earlier, you better make sure you SWITCH wiht your PG for the help Defense cuz Bell will drain on you EVERYTIME and they all go in so if you stand in front of BEll he will keep swinging the ball outside until a good shot is there!

              Good point

maye we can turn the "double team" to never or something, but I don't know how to mess with coaching settings

I did notice the double teams several times, but I didn't seem to get burned as much...this might need some tweaking, like turning down 3-pt tendencies and/or percentage...but we'll need to play several games to get a good feel for it. But right now i'm so happy since it seems like the PiP and overall gameplay has been improved a bit. I was getting frustrated how 90% of the CPU's offense was a backdoor cutter and layups, resulting in 75-80% points in paint (and from fast breaks)

that's another reason I think Clutch should be OFF....i get the feeling the CPU will drain every 3-pointer during crunch time

it's just so annoying how we're forced to make such huge tweaks to the sliders and take drastic measures (and hours and hours of practicing) to get good gameplay...the CPU has such an unfair advantage on default settings, it's inexcusable when it's unrealistic (like super speed boost...are you kidding me? )

One more thing....I'm actually getting better games on Pro

                lol

seems like on higher levels, the CPU has a bigger tendency to ignore sliders and resort to cheating and cheese plays

anybody have any input on this?

I'm with you on the work/GF thing. It's like as soon as I load up my season she's on her way to pick me up outta nowhere, lol. Maybe a GF Surprise Visit slider is what's really needed here.
But Yeah, I definitely didn't have to tweak sliders NEARLY as extensively in 2K8 just to get it playing correctly. Hopefully the much anticipated patch will address as much of this as possible.
You're right, with the Look for Post slider so high they will look down low a lot, but it's much realer, and as jrose and pbz said if you hold your ground they will dish to cutters or shooters, which turns into a little mini-game of you closing out on shooters while they swing it around. Just beautiful. On the double team issue, if I don't want to double I usually just take control of the man the CPU sends to double and stay put, either that or set double team to Never in the Matchup settings and just double when I want manually. Also I'd like to see more fadeaways (I was watching some NBA games last night and the fadeaway is used a LOT from 8-15 ft) so I may raise that slider a bit.
Things are starting to look real sweet, thanks guys for your input.

Really enjoying these Holiday. Good job on them.

Any suggestions from anyone on speed settings to be able to play 12 minutes quaters? I really like the pacing of everything with pbz's speed suggestions, but would really like to be able to play 12 minute quarters without slowing things to a crawl. That might not be possible though, but I figure I would ask.

I'm running it at 43 with Pro @ 12 mins. Not too fast, not too slow - just finished a game with Bulls 96 against Grizz 86. Gonna run another to see if I can fix this glitch where no ones getting tired.

First of all great sliders. Playing 10 minutes quarters and having realistic results. PiP are a bit high but not as much problems as it used to be. I have put look for post players to 95. The only thing with sliders is that there are not much fouls called. I only have about 8 free throws per game. But this can be fixed quickly. Overall good job!
