(SPOILER) Playbook for Ozzie Jones?

Well lads finished the first season with the Seahawks. Hasselbeck's right arm (over 4000 yards) and three healthy wideouts helped us reached the play-offs but our lack at HB (Julius Jones and Maurice Morris) quickly showed as the Bucs dismantled us in play-off game 1.

The Ozzie Jones draft is coming up and with 2 late first round picks (22 and 29) I reckon I'd be in a good position to draft him.

I'm still running Holmgrens West Coast passing attack and I was wondering if Ozzie Jones would be any good? Or do I need to alter the playbook? Or get another HB that might do better in this scheme?

Ozzie Jones is awesome and is the perfect back for a west coast system. He catches extremely well out of the backfield, and because he is so elusive, he doesnt really need a fullback to plow the way for him. However, a good run blocking line helps greatly. Has Waltur Jones retired in your career?

So just out of curiosity, how would you alter the playbook for Jones? Just create new plays and edit current ones? I only ask because, to my extreme frustration, it seems you cannot change your playbook entirely during your career.

Ozzie Jones compares to Barry Sanders, but he was much better running draws from 4 or 5 receiver sets. Isn't perhaps Marshall Faulk a better comparison?

In my experience, hiring another OC does not change your playbook. The best you can do is, during the hiring process, select the options to "replace a few 4-3 plays, replace a few dime plays" etc. But it does not tell you WHICH plays are being added, or subtracted.

Well Marshall Faulk is very likely one of the greatest backs of all time for a system like this. So of course another Marshall would be perfect. But really, in terms of Jone's actual stats, the only thing Marshall would be better at is catching. And even then, Jones is not that far behind.

Okay.....this thread already has the spoiler warning, so don't read any further if you don't want to know about Ozzie please.









Now, having said that. I drafted Ozzie in my first offseason after I, too, lost in the playoffs and suffered from a poor run game.

My playcalling and strategies may be suspect, but he didn't perform well for me. He DOES catch very well, but I could not for the life of me get him off on his running game. He broke VERY few big runs even with his amazing speed. I bulked up my coaching and everything to help him, but had little success running inside, outside, sweeps, pitches, draws....he simmed better though, than he actually played for me. Traded him away last season. I'm in my 2013 season.

At least he never gets hurt and was an excellent receiver. I just don't know if it was the Seahawks system or what.

I too have ozzie and I'd have to say he is so talented that he would work well in any system other than smashmouth. however, i think an ideal back for you would have a little bit more size (faulk was a big guy, really). i dont have many specific examples off the top of my head for you, but one guy you might want to look at is felix jones.

With our 2nd round pick we managed to snatch MLB Bates, the other 2nd rounder was dealt away for extra picks in rounds 3, 5 and 7.

For day two we're looking to add some of those wonderful wideouts available, add depth to both lines and our secondary.

Ozzie had to learn the playbook (which is is damn good at doing) in order to really go. I recommend mastering a few of your running plays to make sure ozzie at least knows a few before your first regular season game.

Aslo, I drafted Wyoming and Ozzie in the same draft. I am unsure of what game logic HC uses, but MAN Wyoming constantly threw pics and got sacked! I attribute it to relatively low awareness (60). However, he really did remind me a bit of Favre. He was a real gun-slinger and when he looked good, he looked great. He just cost me way too many games with turnovers and I eventually traded him. Since then, awareness is the stat I value most in a QB.

My first season I had Rex Grossman throw for 42 Tds and 36 Ints. He won me games and he really stunk up the joint as well

weird...it seems like the jones/wyoming combo is fairly popular. the AI controlled jets picked those two before I took them over (after getting fired by the bears) in my career. i have yet to use wyoming though, he's still on my bench behind clemens, who i have to keep due to a grossly high penalty cap

Also managed to sign Ray Rice (3.2 mil for 1 year) so we've really upgraded our running attack. Surprised to see him as a FA after only one season .

Tomorrow is is the first pre-season game, can't wait to see our new HB's and WR's on the field.

Ive been starting josh johnson his rookie year, he will be a good fit *sometime* in the future but right now he just drives me crazy with great plays with his feet followed by a pick six

In the season opener vs the pats he threw 2 pick sixes that should never have been thrown, plus another pick before he got the hook in the 3rd quarter. If I threw it around every game like my playbook desperately wants, I'd easily be in the upper 30's for picks on the year. Maybe more.

but hes a "project qb" who has done a lot better when I have only been making him throw 10-15 times a game midseason. plus his abysmal learning has caught up with my condensed-for-dummies playcalling. Knucklehead wr's + a knucklehead qb make for a rocky passing game other than handful of plays they can manage to master. But the potential! It hopefully will be worth it.
