High-Speed HDMI cables

I purchased a Samsung TV back in July of this year. It's the 120hz 650 series.

Anyway, I sometimes get motion blur with football games in HD and also playing Madden.

I have been all over the internet and asking people about this high speed Monster Cable that is supposedly made for 120hz TV's. I swear, it's about a 50/50 ratio on people loving this cable and others saying it's BS and way overpriced.

I'm confused. Is this cable legit??

Motion blur is not only common, it is natural for LCD's. Thankfully, the newer Samsung models (the ones with that awesome subtle reddish glow in the black finish) are helping correct this problem, making it a little better and better each time. You see, television broadcasts are shot at 24 frames per second, and displaying your shows and games in 120 Hz is making the television create frames that don't exist. In that regard, they are "artificial," so to speak. But Samsung is getting proficiently better at correcting this "artifacting" issue. How? I really have no idea. But the 950 model (is that the newest one?) has better motion blur correction than the 650 model. Only time will tell before they make it look seamless.

As for the HDMI cables, don't buy into the hype. The only reason the company still exists is because people see the name and the price and psychologically believe that they are better cables. Truth is, you're spending about $130 too much for these cables. You'll have the same issues as you've had. It's the TV that's the problem, and like I said, it's natural, so in a way your TV also isn't the problem. All that aside, keep the cables you have, or if you don't yet have HDMI cables, buy them from monoprice.com, like Scott said. $6 max, maybe shipping. I got $3 cables, good as it gets.

yep. digital signal will be all or nothing. stick with monoprice.

if anyone says that you need monster cables that are either 1) saleperson looking to make a nice commission or 2) wanting to feel better about overpaying.

I got two 6'-ers at monoprice for $15 shipped thx to the guys on this board!

Also, apparently no HD channel is broadcast in higher than 1080i, so composite cables would apparently give you the same quality as an HDMI cable. My cable co. hooked me up with composite and I was a little miffed at first until I learned this. I think it is also going to depend on the quality of the channel actually being broadcast.

Isnt composite the rey-white-yellow, standard AV cables? I think your talking about component cables, the red-white-yellow-green-blue cables but I could be wrong.

That's composite. Component is RGB.

I actually just looked it up, component is Hi-Def and it has 5 connectors (red/white/yellow/blue/green) and composite is the standard av cable that is yellow/white/red.

I know it's fashionable here to slag Monster cables and I do think they're overpriced but I"ll be honest I see a difference with the high speed ones. I just bought a LCD TV with 120 refresh and they threw in 2 Monster cables for half price, the 120Hz ones that run 10.2 Gbps. I plugged in my old HDMI cables from my CRT TV and there was noticeble blurring but when I put in my Monster cables the picture was pristine and sports looked amazing with no blurring whatsoever. It was most apparent playing Blurays where blurring occurred when I had my old cables hooked up.

If you can find cheaper cables that run that 10.2 Gbps speed then I would get those for a 120Hz TV. I wouldn't get Monster cables either because they are alwasy alot more expensive but if you can't find any other manufacturer making these high speed ones it may affect your TV like it did mine. If you can afford to get a new LCD TV with 120 refresh rate and an Hidef cable package you should be able to afford forking out a little extra dough for cables to handle the higher speed. Any store where you buy your TV will knock off at least 50% off cables to get you to buy the TV.

I thought so. My TV is 120hz and I have been having noticeable blur, especially during sports games. I'm picking these cables up and keep you guys posted that possess 120hz TV's.
