    Raiders Franchise

NFL Head Coach 09 Raiders Franchise

I just got this game at the local Wal-Mart on Black Friday, and decided to make one of my own franchise threads here after seeing a bunch of others. I've been reading on these forums for a few weeks, and that's what actually persuaded me to buy the game. After fooling around with a few offseasons with several different teams just to get the hang of the game, I started my "real" franchise, if you will, in the preseason with my Raiders. I started in the preseason since it would be more of a challenge with all of the overpayed FA's. I actually finished all of season 1 during the Thanksgiving break, and am heading into the offseason right now.

I'm not gonna post stats for the 1st season since it "doesnt count" in my mind, as I didn't start in the offseason(again, I felt that preseason would be a bigger challenge). Once I go into season 2, I'll post recaps for games, scouting reports of my opponents(tuned to their philosophies, since their players will be ranked different in mine), as well as some other stuff around the league

    Quick recap:
    Coach skills-
    level 3 for HB Physical
    level 3 for OL physical
    level 4 for DL physical
    level 3 for HB intangibles
    level 4 for OL intangibles
    level 3 for DL intangibles
    level 3 for OL learning
    level 3 for DL learning
    level 3 for HB learning
    Special Skill:Off Season Seminar

    I got a run-heavy west coast offensive playbook, and a no-blitz cover2 defensive playbook

    Team Philosophies
    QB-Field General
    RB-Power
    FB-Balanced
    WR-Quick/Route Runner
    TE-balanced
    OT-run block
    OG-run block
    DE-undersized speed rusher
    DT-one-gap penetrator
    OLB-cover 2
    MLB-speed/coverage
    CB-cover 2
    FS-centerfielder
    SS-coverage
    K-balanced
    P-balanced

I traded QB Andrew Walter for a 6th and 7th rounder.
Finished 5-11, ended with an approval rating of 48. Fired the OC, QBC, STC, and GM.
    My new coaches were
STC chris staymates the florida OC 46 ovr(possible promotion to OC soon?)
GM Mikey Davis(i think thats his name, he was the Saints GM but got fired) 66 ovr
    QBC Tom Clements 74 ovr
    OC Butch Millwood 41 ovr

Only pro bowler was P Shane Lechler.
Eagles beat the Pats 34-30 in the superbowl.

I have the draft with all of the defensive linemen, cauran lawrence, marques acho, and the other 2 DTs. heisman winner alex hurst is not in the draft, and over 5 RBs currently have 1st round grades.

My tenative plan as of right now is to get two decent WR's in FA, tender Nmandi and trade him for a 1st or 2nd, and sign 2 decent CB's in FA. Maybe a DT and/or a DE. I plan to use most of my draft on OL and DL, with a few mid-rounders on WR and CB.

    Re: Raiders Franchise

So during the season, mcfadden has a little under 4 ypc and around 1000 yards. mike bush has around 2ypc and 300-400 yards. and anthony thomas had around 3 ypc with approx. 300 yards. Russell was historically bad, with 1(one!)TD and 8INTs, going 72/180. TE zach miller was his main target, also grabbing the lone TD. I think one problem might have been that i ran the ball waaaaaaay too much.

Defensivley, i lead the league in points allowed(as in i allowed the least), and lead the league in INTs. however, i had the worst run D with over 6 ypc, and only had 28 sacks(iggles and gints tied with 84-thats a crapload)

Im not ready to give up on russell just yet, as his recievers were javon walker, roydell williams, david givens, and jason avant.

        Re: Raiders Franchise

Ok, so right now I'm at the eve of the draft. I cut some players which really helped clear out some space. The dead weight cuts were OG Robert Gallery, OT Cornell Green, DT Gerrard Warren, and OLB Robert Thomas. Keep in mind that i had a huge amount of penalties for cutting overpaid players during the preseason, such as ronald curry and terdell sands.

        Quick FA recap
        I signed
        CB Ricky Manning(81) 4yr 14m
        CB Ken Lucas(76) 4yr 13m
        OT Irv Glenn(79) 5yr 5mil - this guy is a steal with 87 potential
        DE Chike Okeafor(77) 1yr 2.4m
        OT Kevin Sampson(77) 2yr 1.5m
        OG Charlie Johnson(80) 5yr 11m
        WR Shaun McDonald(79) 2yr 6m
        DT Chuck Darby(79) 1yr 2.9m
QB John Beck(70) 2yr 4.8m- also a steal, as he has 85 potential, which is higher than russel's 78

Also, i Franchise tagged Nmandi, probably trading him for a low first/high 2nd during the draft depending on where the players fall, if i can get that for him.

Also, the schedule came out. Ill list the games in week order(1-17)

        vs Chargers
        at Browns
        vs Ravens
        BYE
        vs Chiefs
        at Cowboys
        at Steelers
        at Dolphins
        vs Broncos
        at Chiefs
        at Broncos
        vs Giants
        vs Eagles
        vs Titans
        at Chargers
        vs Bengals
        at Redskins

and, for whatever reason, Darren McFadden is "demanding a trade". what a prick

          Re: Raiders Franchise

          Draft Time!

          Day 1(Rounds 1-2)

Trade 5th overall pick to the Bills for 18th, 2(46th), and 4(114th) pick, Bills use that to select Memphis Cb Karl Dixon

With the 18th, I selected Norte Dame DE Caraun Laurence

Traded 2(37) and 2(46) for 27th from Chargers

With the 27th, I took Stanford OG Scott Burke

I wasn't able to trade nmandi away for a high 2nd which i wanted to use on Notre Dame OG Spencer Anderson, so I wound up with no 2nd round picks. Lets hope that Laurence and Burke pan out. Apparently, according to Adam Shefter, Laurence is a great pass rusher but he is weak against the run. Meanwhile, Burke is a great lineman who is "too stiff" with his upper body, but shefter says he has probowl potential.

              1st Round:

Only the Eagles hat multiple picks coming in, at #3(from CAR in 2008 draft) and #32. So as you will see, there were a ton of trades.

              1. MIA- Florida State QB Joe Kain
              2. ARI- Miami TE Danny Carey
              3. PHI- California DE Marquies Acho
              4. WAS- Tennessee DT DeAndre Roe
              5. BUF- Memphis CB Karl Dixon
              6. NYJ- Colorado WR Kammeon Walker
              7. STL- Oregon State LT Moe Newsome
              8. BAL- UCF DT JeMarcus Boone
              9. GB- UCLA QB Tyron Greene
              10. ATL- Minnesota WR Warren Cox
              11. CLE- Syracuse CB Gabe Bishop
              12. CIN- Penn State RB AJ Bishop
              13. TEN- Indiana WR Kris Wade
              14. PHI- Oregon OLB Mister Wright
              15. CHI- Colorado State FS Drew Goddard
              16. WAS- Oregon DT Patrick Brookes
              17. DET- East Carolina CB DeAngelo Summers
              18. OAK- Notre Dame DE Caraun Laurence
              19. SF- Pitt DE Doki Somanu
              20. NO- Pitt CB Tavian Steele
              21. SEA- USC WR Kel Warrick
              22. SEA- Tennessee RB Kavario Allen
              23. MIN- Notre Dame WR Dravanti Jordan
              24. JAX- Michigan State CB Darrell Jackson
              25. NE- Wisconsin RB Anthony Marshall
              26. NYG- UAB DT Marcus Gant
              27. OAK- Stanford OG Scott Burke
              28. DAL- Ohio State WR DeAngelo Abernathy
              29. CLE- Boston College DE Nick DeComas
              30. TB- Oklahoma State RB Ozzie Jones
              31. DEN- Wisconsin MLB Albert Wright
              32. IND- Arizona State CB Jamaar Singleton

And McFadden requested to be released, which of course I denied. Probably should have went RB somewhere in the draft or FA. I'll see what i can get for him through trade, and if its nothing good Ill just keep him and bench him most likely.

                Re: Raiders Franchise

Some breaking news out of Oakland here.

With 7 days to go until training camp, I traded Darren McFadden to the Texans for a 2010(next draft)1st, and a 2011 6th. I really bullied the texans into this, since them and 8 other teams were offering 4ths and 5ths, and the Texans were the only team to budge all the way up to a 1st, let alone a 2nd. I save 6.5m this year, and have a penalty of 6.4m next year.

ALSO, I traded Nmamdi to the Cheifs for a 2010 1st and a 2010 6th. This gives me 3 1st round picks in the next draft.

                  Re: Raiders Franchise

I finished the preseason 1-3, with an opening win against the chiefs and 3 losses to the redskins, eagles, and ravens. I payed attention more to performance than anything else, and ill just post some notes that i mentally took

-I kind of miss mcfadden. My overall ypc was in the high 3's, and im sure mcfadden could have done better than that. However, he was demanding a trade/cut so he had to be let go, and i got great value for him. scot burke, my rookie RG, is a beast and has 94 potential. he is below avg in pass blocking but amazing in runblocking

-my 3rd and 4th round OL, C renaldo morrison and LT landon pierce, are 85/90 and 84/89 respectively. however, they commited way too many penalites such as holding calls and false starts, so im letting them ride the bench in their rookie year to develop more. They will definetly start next year.

-my WRs are soo much better than last year its not even funny. 5th rounder Joe Donaldson from North Carolina is a 78, and has 91 potential. McDonald and Walker are decent starters for now

-Irv Glenn, my FA RT, reminds me a lot of eagles RT jon runyan. both are tenacious run blockers, and both are slightly above avg in pass blocking. they both do downfield blocks on hb swing patterns really well. and both were low key FA signings at first.

-all 4 of my 6th and 7th rounders were cut. however, i ended up resigning 7th rounder DT caulley because of a season ending injury to FA signing DT darby. caulley only has 66 POT,but that was better than 6th round DT Brock's POT of 58.

-Caraun Laurence, who has a HOF potential of 95--only 10 players in the game, under my philosophies, have over a 95, while about 30-40 have above 90-- and derrick burgess did not play at all in the preseason. I wanted to keep my primary pass rushers healthy for the season. Chike okeafor, jay richardson, and UDFA G.Copeland really impressed, and will back laurence and burgess up.

                  Around the League
-the packers really suck, in this game, with QBs. favre retires from the Jets, and the packers trade aaron rodgers(75 in field general) to the jets for a 5th. how ironic. their starting QB is Andrew Walter! my castoff. their 2nd string is last years 2nd rounder brian brohm. and their 3rd string is 1st round top 10 pick tyron greene. you know greene and brohm are busts if they cant beat out andrew walter, who is even worse than jamarcus russell

-the eagles are totally stacked, and aimed for a repeat. mister wright and marques acho both have high 80s in my philosophies, and under the eagles, they have slightly higher rankings. add that to a SB winning team and i think they will repeat

-The broncos are stacked at DE. all of their DE's, besides dumervil who is a 90, have high 70s, but there all rookies or 1st year players. Im guessing that they have very high upside since their young

-AJ Bishop, who adam shefter called a boom or bust RB during the draft, seems like a bust so far for the bengals as he was 2nd string RB after week 3 of the preseason. not sure if hes the starter now

-WR Dravanti jordan of the viks, who shefter said was the best WR in the draft but very injury prone, missed the whole preseason for a series of injuries, but will come back for week 1. he is currently the vikings 2nd string wr.

-and rams 1st round pick LT newsome has a 27 learning. 27. thats lowround material right there

ill post the scouting report for the chargers in a few hours, and then the game results after that

                      Re: Raiders Franchise

So the Chargers, with HC Norv Turner, have some great pass rushing LBs in merriman and phillips. also, they both suck at coverage. so i drew up some plays with fargas where he would to a curl right by the OLB and have an option to go left or right. also plan to mostly play from 2TE sets to help protect from their pass rush.

With no good backup RB, i guess that they will just keep on pounding the rock with LT. They also have the best runblocking Oline, by playerratings, in the league. their lowest is 88, and LT mcniel has a 95. Their secondary is very average, with cromartie, jammer, and cason. i think i might be able to go deep on them a few times. I really dont think i will have that much success running the ball, since jamaal williams is one of the best 3-4 DT, and olshanksky is a top 5 or top10 run-stopping DE. they also got jeremiah trotter at MLB, so i might also throw in a few short crossing routes, as their safeties are also bad.

I still think ill lose since LT should be able to run all over me(i badly need a DT), but im hoping to keep it close.

                          I lost 13-3.
Scouted big school RBs, and one player I am definetly looking at is who else but RB Boar Jackson from Auburn. Maybe he also plays baseball?

I actually played the chargers REALLY well, and it was just my inability to contain Gates that cost me. LT also tore me apart from the ground, but i got the key stops when necessary. I still really need a good DT, so those three 1st rounders should really help me.
I ran the ball way too much again. I was lucky that russell only got sacked once. i had no idea how much of a bull-rushing team the chargers had become, since last season they got a ton of pressure off the edge. merriman was pretty much a nonfactor. they have an amazing runD, and jamaal williams really shut down my inside run singlehandedly, and my RBs had to dance around because of him.
My created plays never worked because russel, with his slow reads progression, never got a chance since he was constatnly under pressure. The quick slants were how i got all of my passing yards.
Caraun Lawrence played really good. he got 6 hurries( i counted more, but thats what the scoresheet says), and 3 sacks. burgess was pretty much nonexistant since the RG and RT would team up on him. both my DTs are very average, and thats putting too much pressure on my DEs in the pass rush and on my LBs in the run game. I was forced to blitz too much because of LT running free, and that contained him, but thats when gates started tearing me apart. It seemed that whenever i called a zone LT would run, and when i called blitz(man cvg), gates would either seperate from his defender or be open on a PA pass.

next week is vs the browns

LOLB is definetly a weak spot, but my backp is a training camp rookie with 78 or 79 potential, who could start in a few years. I really dont need a great OLB for my system, just a decent cover guy, like the retired rob morris last year, who was only a 72. He nearly made the probowl.

I would say i need a DT and RB. and maybe a QB,but i just need someone servicable, like high 70s/low 80s there. If i can draft Boar Jackson and a good DT next year in the 1st, i think I could contend since i played the chargers really close with the team i have right now

Scouting Report for the Cleveland Browns, coached by Romeo Crenell

Starting LE Corey Williams, who is a great run stuffer, is injured and R.Smith will start for him. Smith is an average player under the browns philosophies. 1st rounder N.McComas starts at RE, and 2nd year pro DT athyba rubin starts over shaun rogers. wow.

anderson is still starting over quinn despite the browns doing relatively poorly last year. OLB K.Wimbley reminds me of merriman and i probably will have a TE to help block him. I think i should be able to run on these guys, as well as pass on them. they have a very good run blocking oline, with joe thomas, eric steinbech brad meester, rookie stephen brandon and kevin shaffer. jamaal lewis is also a great RB, but he has low fatigue so i might see his backup samkon gado(god bless him he saved my fantasy team a few years back w/the pack) quite a bit.

Im thinking that this is a winnable game
