Response from Peter Moore, EA Sports President

I sent a letter to Peter Moore last week and posted it in this thread under the title "open letter to Peter Moore, and also a different letter under the title "Another Open Letter to Peter Moore" which basically addressed my concerns with the direction EA is taking their sports franchises (cheesy and unrealistic), the lack of anything that could represent a television quality broadcast (although accoreding to EA they are "beyond broadcast" which is supposed "better" than a TV broadcast even though they just cut to the jumbotron for injuries and first downs, etc), and also the lack of using the ESPN license for anything other than stupid features noone cares about. Well, much to my surprise (and I would imagine the surprise of many people in this forum who didn't think a CEO would ever read a letter like that) I recieved a email response from Peter Moore himself. Here is what he said:

    "Hi,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write your interesting and thoughtful perspective on our brands and it’s positioning. It is difficult for me to provide you with a lot of detail in response to your questions, as much of what we do is tied to league licenses or our broadcaster (ESPN) agreements. I would obviously vehemently disagree with many of your comments on the capabilities of our teams and the methods we have used to build the EA SPORTS brand. Our goal has always been for the EA SPORTS brand to be a standalone complement to our league deals (as it was with 2K Sports when I began to build it while at Sega), so that you built equity into the business that could withstand license losses and additions.

Sorry I can’t get into this with you in open email, but I do truly appreciate your input and feedback, and thank you again for taking the time to contact me with your thoughts…"

    Cheers,

    Peter

No, this is actually from Peter Moore. I assume he ended it with cheers cuz he is British.

actually, as a recruiter, I have had many an email conversation with owners, ceos, cfos, etc and while at first, i thought it was a little "funny" I did see people ending their emails with cheers frequently, so it doesnt look weird to me. Even my boss says it on the phone when leaving messages, im like wtf is wrong with you man at first.

This is what is commonly known as a 'rubber stamp'. If you think Peter Moore had anything to do with this responce, then I have a lovely bridge I would like to sell you.

I for sure thought that he would have wrote back saying that he agrees to scrap and redo everything.
Be it a legit email reponse or not, it is the type of mail you can expect back from a high precentage of companies. Politely disagree with your opinions but a thanks for expressing your concern.

Im actually surprised he did not give you a pre-wrote generic Email. Kudos for Peter Moore for actually responding to your email, that in itself is a Win.

I personally would love ESPN presentation but something tells me that that the decision is probably coming from above Peter Moore.

I have loved Moore's blogs. He's very straight forward and honest. It was he, before Ian and Phil, that gave me hope for 2010 simply because of how he talks to consumers. His PR-Speak is far closer to English than most businessmen, and he's not afraid to come right out and say it, "Yes, I want to create the best product possible, not... no, because businesses exist to make money. Period."
There are two types of people on OS: Those who disagree with me, and those who agree.

The first kind is wrong. The second is superfluous.

The only difference between reality and fiction is that fiction needs to be credible.
